The return of Matthew Perry. A Revolution from Eric Kripke. Community on Friday nights.
NBC released its 2012-2013 schedule yesterday and TV Fanatic staff writer is now here to analyze each evening of programming in-depth. Read on and chime in with your thoughts on new and returning shows...

8 pm: The Voice
10 pm: Revolution
Putting The Voice on for two cycles per season is a risky move by NBC because, while it may help the network in the short term, there's a risk of diluting the brand and the competition to a point where the audience is no longer interested or invested (see The Biggest Loser).
However, with NBC in such dire straits there really isn't any other option for them. They need eyes on their network to get people in the habit of remembering NBC actually exists, and the only way to do that is by milking their best asset right now. »

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
With only a few shows from last season still sticking around (and none of them hits really), NBC is betting big on comedy this year to sit alongside its football and "The Voice" broadcasts. In fact though its ordered five new dramas, only two of those will be premiering in the Fall with the rest of the schedule filled out with either returning shows or new comedies.
"The Munsters" reboot "Mockingbird Lane" remains in development for a possible mid-season launch. Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen, the most galling of which is the Alaskan-set conspiracy mystery thriller "Midnight Sun" with Julia Stiles and Titus Welliver. NBC Announces 2012-2013 Primetime Schedule
NBC has released their fall 2012 schedule, with the biggest news being the heavy emphasis on comedy. To go along with the six comedies from the past season that got renewed, the network has scheduled four new comedies and expanded to four nights of comedy.
Unsurprisingly, The Voice will be back for a fall season, leading into the Jj Abrams/Eric Kripke drama Revolution on Mondays and the Go On/New Normal comedy block on Tuesdays. Parenthood will be airing its 15 episode fourth season in the Tuesday at 10:00 slot, where it's been since its debut. Wednesdays will get two more comedies, something that NBC tried last season, as single-cam Animal Practice and multi-cam Guys with Kids will be paired up. There had been an assumption that the latter would be paired with Whitney, the only other multi-cam on NBC. The rest of the night will be all Dick Wolf, »

NBC is the first broadcast network to unveil its official game plan for the 2011-12 TV season, and the biggest news regarding returning shows is that Community is relocating to Fridays at 8:30/7:30c where it will follow Whitney. Also of note: Smash is being benched until midseason and The Office has formally been renewed for a ninth season.
Among new fare, the J.J. Abrams/Eric Kripke thriller Revolution has landed Smash‘s plum Monday/10 pm timeslot after The Voice, and the Matthew Perry sitcom Go On will be paired with Ryan Murphy’s comedy The New Normal on Tuesday. »

Vivacious Irish actor best known for her role opposite Albert Finney in Tom Jones
The red-haired, vivacious and provocative Irish actor Joyce Redman, who has died aged 93, will for ever be remembered for her lubricious meal-time munching and swallowing opposite Albert Finney in Tony Richardson's 1963 film of Tom Jones. Eyes locked, lips smacked and jaws rotated as the two of them tucked into a succulent feast while eyeing up the afters. Sinking one's teeth into a role is one thing. This was quite another, and deliciously naughty, the mother of all modern mastication scenes.
Redman and Finney were renewing a friendship forged five years earlier when both appeared with Charles Laughton in Jane Arden's The Party at the New (now the Noël Coward) theatre. Redman was not blamed by the critic Kenneth Tynan for making nothing of her role as Laughton's wife. "Nothing," he said, "after all, will come of nothing. »

NBC has canceled "Harry's Law." Series star Kathy Bates tweeted the news to her followers.
The legal drama from "Ally McBeal" creator David E. Kelley was one of NBC's highest rated shows in the Nielsen ratings, except in the coveted 18-49 demographic. The second season of "Harry's Law" debuted to 7.5 million viewers and has fluctuated between 7 and at one point 9 million viewers in the ratings since. The May 4 episode of the series had 7.7 million viewers but a 0.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic.
The series was considered on the bubble because of its low 18-49 demo rating, but its overall numbers worked in its favor.
NBC has previously canceled "The Firm," "Prime Suspect, "Free Agents," "The Playboy Club," "Awake" "Bent," "Are You There Chelsea?" and "Best Friends Forever."

NBC has canceled "Awake," according to TVLine. The Kyle Killen-created drama got the axe from the Peacock network, as well as "Bent," "Are You There Chelsea?" and "Best Friends Forever." The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the cancellations.
The cancellation news comes hot on the heels of NBC renewing "30 Rock," "Parenthood," "Community," "Parks & Recreation," "Whitney," "Up All Night" and "Fashion Star."
NBC already ordered second seasons of "Smash" and "Grimm" and previously canceled 2011-2012 newbies "The Firm," "Prime Suspect, "Free Agents" and "The Playboy Club."
"Awake" starred Jason Isaacs as a police officer living in two realities, one where his wife is alive and not his son after a deadly accident, and one where it's his son who survived. He used clues from each reality to solve various crimes. The series debuted to about 6 million viewers, but has slipped to just over 2 million in recent airings.

With the way both NBC and The CW are struggling to not only find an audience this year, but hold on to its audience from last year, it's been hard to predict where its schedule would end up. But now we know for sure: Fall will come without two more genre shows as NBC has cancelled "Awake" while The CW has parted ways with "The Secret Circle." Neither programs were ratings winners for their respective networks. "Awake" averaged a 2.5 rating/4 share, according to Fast National overnight ratings from The Nielsen Co., allowing it to be ranked No. 21 out of 29 shows on NBC, and No. 93 overall. It was also ranked No. 41 among the 52 new shows the thane premiered since the beginning of April. "Awake" took over a tough time slot for NBC that had already killed "Prime Suspect" and "The Firm," »
