Stars from middle England's TV favourites TV's Little Dorrit, Rag Trade and Last of the Summer Wine among those awarded
The brief cast of actors named in today's New Year honours list reads like a triumph for middle England and its favourite long-running television shows, from Poirot star David Suchet to Last of the Summer Wine's Bert Kwouk.
Suchet, who has starred in 65 episodes of Agatha Christie's Poirot on ITV since 1989, was made a Cbe for services to drama, as was fellow actor Sheila Hancock, the former Rag Trade star and widow of actor John Thaw who has reinvented herself in recent years as a best-selling author, musical star and judge on Andrew Lloyd Webber's BBC1 talent show, Over the Rainbow.
Harriet Walter, the star of stage and screen including BBC1's Little Dorrit and a stint in ITV1's Law and Order: UK, was made a »

It was appropriate that for the last Twitter-Wood update of 2010, the feed included plenty of examples of what made the year great. "Black Swan" reactions continued to appear, while Michael Ian Black and Brody Stevens wished horrible fates upon people for the new year and Seth MacFarlane proposed a New Year's resolution for anyone who hasn't picked one yet.
Ice-t sounded off with his feelings about the police, as he apparently got pulled over this week. His rant, as well as Jeremy Piven's fear of saunas and Anna Kendrick's love for the show "Misfits" can be found down below.

After making great club bangers, some rather questionable music videos, (cough… clearing throat), and the masterpiece of uncut musical clips for his group Disturbing the Peace with P. Poppin directed by wunderkind duo Fat Cats, Ludacris had set sights on feature films as an actor.
Having Being John Malkovich director Spike Jonze direct his clip for Move, it gave witness to his charm, along with a comfortable, relaxed vibe with the camera. Blink and you may miss his guest spot in John Singleton’s 2 Fast 2 Furious; his next performance was as a carjacker who spoke with grace and intelligence in Best Picture Oscar Winner Crash, leading to strong performances that proved a great future that might very well rival Mos Def, with his work in Hustle and Flow, plus a two-episode story arc on Law and Order: Svu, which almost garnered a nomination. Also enjoyable are decent flicks like Gamer and Rock ‘N Rolla. »

Memories and condolences in the wake of R&B performer Teena Marie's death were out in force in Twitter-Wood this morning. Ice-t, Quinton Aaron, Sasha Grey and Tyrese Gibson all noted her importance and expressed their grief in posts, whether they were friends, fans or both.
Hugh Hefner's engagement to 24-year-old Playboy Playmate Crystal Harris also attracted attention today. Patton Oswalt and Seth Green both contributed opinions on that front, while Tinsel Korey shared her favorite scene from "Eclipse." You can find out what that was and see how Zachary Quinto feels about the blizzard he came face to face with after the jump.

hollywoodnews.com: Let us begin our look back at the year in film with a token acknowledgement of ten films whose reputations did not proceed them. For the record, not all of the films below are bad pictures. But they all generated critical and/or audience esteem that they perhaps did not entirely earn. There is nothing wrong with overpraising a good film. It often emanates from a hunger for quality that often causes we the critics to look at a merely solid and/or competent piece of cinema and hail it as a groundbreaking work of art. The following are in alphabetical order.
The release of this film timed so conveniently with the arrest of director Roman Polanski that the reception of this film seemed to fall into two categories: ‘a triumphant thriller from a master artist’ and/or ‘the new movie by that kiddie-rapist’. Truth be told, »

The Spider-Man musical punchlines have not yet subsided, and I doubt they will before 2010 ends at this rate. "Break a leg" references and Green Goblin involvement behind the scenes have been the most popular choices today.
Also trending today was Lindsay Lohan after a Betty Ford Center employee accused the actress of battery and was subsequently fired for sharing confidential information with the press. Scope out some reactions after the jump, along with an update on what Russell Brand did with his new 3-D TV.

Well, Hollywood may be getting quiet this week, but Twitter-Wood most certainly is not. In fact, most everyone who's fleeing Los Angeles in our feed has been chronicling their fear and near-death experiences driving in the rain as they attempt to get out. Slightly more interesting, however, have been reactions to the "Survivor: Nicaragua" finale, "The Fighter" and "Black Swan."
Micro-reviews from Ice-t, Jon Favreau and Alicia Silverstone can be found after jump. There, you'll also find out who from the "Community" cast has been giving away Nintendo DS games and how Steve Martin approaches jury duty.

We don’t usually come across stories about celebrities who have killed people (or attempted to kill people) that often, but this week there are at least three coming out of Tinseltown. The first story, which we first reported back in June, has to do with former Melrose Place actress Amy Locane. Locane is being indicted on charges of aggravated manslaughter and assault by automobile after killing a motorist in New Jersey. She admitted at the scene that she had been drinking that day. If convicted, she faces up to thirty-five years in prison. The second celeb to face the court this week is Shelley Malil, the actor from The 40-Year-Old Virgin, who received a life sentence yesterday for attempted murder. Malil stabbed his ex-girlfriend Kendra Beebe twenty times in 2008 after she spent time with another man. He will be eligible for parole in twelve years. Finally, the bizarre case »

Loveses the Linus Roache, I do: I watched the new Law and Order just to see him in my living room every week... He should be in my living room all the time, frankly... But I suppose I’ll have to just keep dreaming about that... I’m posting pictures like these every weekday, of a man who is attractive and desirable, because I like to look, dammit -- and because the female gaze doesn’t have to be such serious business. Elizabeth Edwards showed up in numerous memorial tweets earlier this week, but even more posts surfaced today to express disgust over the Westboro Baptist Church's decision to picket her funeral. The announcement did inspire Michael Ian Black to declare a new item to scratch off of his life's bucket list, though.
In other topics, Denis Leary applauded Miley Cyrus for video of the singer-actress smoking a bong. His commentary, along with Ice-t's reaction to Wesley Snipes going to jail and Damon Lindelof on the "Community" Christmas special's "Lost" jab has been retweeted after the jump.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange's arrest in London kicked up some tweet commentary in the feed today. Amid all of the critics and supporters, though, James Urbaniak thinks Assange would be a fine "Law and Order" character.
Wil Wheaton, meanwhile, attempted to leak the secrets of creating paper Darth Vader snowflakes on his account, and the pictures show that he came very close. Elsewhere, Tyrese Gibson didn't divulge anything new from the set of "Men in Black 3," but he did hang out with Will Smith and try on some shoes. Campbell Scott ("Damages") has joined the cast of the upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot, while Irrfan Khan (Slumdog Millionaire), Annie Parisse ("Rubicon") and Julianne Nicholson ("Law and Order: Criminal Intent") are in various stages of discussions to also join the production. Scott and Nicholson will be Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) parents, who leave their son an orphan. They have rarely been seen in the various Marvel comic book series and have never appeared on-screen. It is unclear if they will appear in flashbacks, in a prologue or during the course of the movie. Khan is playing a villain named Van Atter, joining Rhys Ifans as the movie's bad guys. Parisse will be the villain's wife. Van Atter may mean Nels Van Adder, who is the evil Proto-Goblin, a research assistant to Mendel Stromm and employee of Norman Osborne. He was used in the conducting of high-tech experiments, and served as a »

We've exclusively learned that ABC's "Happy Endings" has brought on comedian and actor Tj Miller ("How To Train Your Dragon," "She's Out of My League"), pictured left, to guest star as an old friend of the gang, Shershow. As everyone and their momma probably knows, even if they’ve never picked up a comic book in their life, Peter Parker aka Spider-Man was raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben (set to be played by Sally Field and Martin Sheen, respectively), but he had to come from somewhere, right? Well, yeah, that’s how it works, kids. The latest addition to Marc Webb’s Spidey reboot has added Parker’s parents, set to be played by Campbell Scott and “Law and Order’s” Julianne Nicholson (below). In the film, Parker’s parents will “leave their son an orphan”, which probably means they are killed? Or died in an accident? Certainly sounds like they won’t be coming back around for parent night. I have no idea what happened to Parker’s parents in the comics, or if they were ever mentioned/shown. If they were never even shown, »

FX has announced the premiere dates for the second season of Archer and the launch of highly anticipated drama Lights Out, according to tvsquad.com. Featuring Emmy-nominated H. Jon Benjamin as its domineering titular character, Archer will premiere Thursday January 27th at 10:00, taking over the slot currently held by It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Meanwhile, on January 11th, Lights Out will inherit the Tuesday at 10:00 timeslot that has launched such FX cornerstone dramas as The Shield, Rescue Me, and Sons of Anarchy.

The trailer for The Lincoln Lawyer is a confounding mess of imagery. With it as the sole source of information about the film, it paints a picture of a high-priced lawyer who uses his Lincoln Towncar as a mobile office for unexplained reasons (fingers crossed for an emotional speech about his dad always driving him around in it before abandoning the family). It also flashes a few out-of-context images of Ryan Phillipe’s character being very wealthy and possibly in a dream sequence but possibly in reality raping and killing a young woman. Lastly, we’re treated to the most awkward ending to a trailer since Flight of the Navigator. Can you stare down McConaughey before getting a creepy feeling in your gut? If so, then you’re a better person than I. The synopsis promises that our hero Mickey Haller will soon find himself in danger, so maybe all the action and chase scenes are yet »
