Calif. Officer Killed, 2 Wounded in Hotel Shootout: ‘The Most Difficult Thing a Department Can Go Through’

A sheriff’s deputy was killed and two highway patrol officers were injured during a shootout in a Sacramento, California, hotel, according to multiple reports.

The shooting happened in front of the Ramada Inn, off the Capital City Freeway, on Wednesday morning, after officers approached one of the hotel rooms to serve a search warrant in connection with an alleged car theft, The Washington Post reports.

As they approached the room, a man inside allegedly fired shots through the door, striking two highway patrol officers. Those officers are in stable condition.

SXSW Film Festival: What to Watch Out for in 2017 Lineup

The South by Southwest Film Festival has a long history of spotlighting native and adopted Texan filmmakers. Yet one particularly noteworthy filmmaker with Texas roots has been long outstanding, and the festival’s 24th iteration will finally see an appearance from one of arthouse cinema’s biggest names, as Terrence Malick brings his Austin-set “Song to Song” to the festival’s March 10 opening night. Thematic appropriateness aside, it represents something of a coup for the once-scrappy fest to feature the auteur, whose last films bowed at Toronto, Berlin, and Cannes.

Yet Malick’s is hardly the only boldfaced name to be found in the lineup, and here are other features — among the 125 scheduled films, 84 of them world premieres — to watch.

The 33-year-old actress, who is expecting her first child with her husband, comedian David Cross, rocked a bright pink Planned Parenthood beanie to the massive protest rallies, where she reunited with two of her former Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants co-stars!
