'The Muppets,' 'Wicked City' lead ABC's Fall 2015 premiere plans

10 June 2015 10:30 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Like CBS the day before, ABC announced its Fall 2015 premiere dates on Wednesday (June 10) morning, putting most of its launches in the traditional post-Emmys Premiere Week starting on Monday, September 21. Perhaps the most interesting detail in ABC's premieres announcement was the the official fate of the Tuesday 10 p.m. time period, which became vacated when ABC announced that it was pushing "Quantico" to Sunday and holding "Of Kings and Prophets" for midseason. That slot will now be filled by "Beyond the Tank" to start the fall and then the formerly midseason drama "Wicked City" beginning in late October. ABC's official roll-out will begin on Friday, September 11 with the premiere of "20/20," though you can decide if that really counts and a full roll-out. The following Monday, on September 14, "Dancing with the Stars" will have its two-hour premiere in its ordinary space, with "Castle" premiering the following week as premieres begin in earnest. »

7 questions Lifetime's 'Full House' movie must answer

4 June 2015 1:13 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Lifetime, the dream factory that gave us that "Saved by the Bell" biopic last year, is back with its newest vision of God: a behind-the-scenes take on "Full House." It premieres August 22. Look at that picture. That's a real thing that your retinas are supposed to handle. Let's name all the stuff we want this movie to teach us. 1. Was there tension between Bob Saget and Dave Coulier when they both hosted home video series? We all remember that Bob Saget hosted "America's Funniest Home Videos" for years, but you may have forgotten that Dave Coulier hosted a similar series called "America's Funniest People" on ABC. Did Bob ever say to Dave, "Step off my game, b*tch"? I want to know. 2. Was there a casting session where a diabolical director decided Comet would play Air Bud? Did you know the golden retriever who played Comet would end up playing Air Bud? »

Sunday Ratings: Two-hour 'Dateline' boosts 'A.D.' and NBC

1 June 2015 9:05 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Sunday, May 31, 2015. "Dateline" was Sunday's top show among young viewers by a wide margin and helped NBC to victory there.  With "60 Minutes" leading the way, though, CBS still won Sunday overall. The second hour of "Dateline" was, in fact, Sunday's only show to go above The Mulaney Line of a 1.0 rating among adults 18-49 and helped both "A.D. The Bible Continues" and "American Odyssey" post small gains. Let's get to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, NBC averaged a 0.9 rating for Sunday night, tops in the key demographic. ABC was second with a 0.7 key demo rating, followed by the 0.6 key demo rating for both Fox and CBS. Overall, though, CBS averaged an estimated 5.37 million viewers and a 3.5 rating/6 share for Sunday night, edging out NBC's 5.04 million viewers and 3.3/6. There was a drop to ABC's 3.59 million viewers and 2.2/4 and to Fox's 1.0/2 and 1.64 million viewers for Sunday night. 7 p. »

DVR Gridlock 2015-16: Sunday Nights

31 May 2015 2:02 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

[As in years past, this week, I'm going to be glancing, night-by-night, at how the primetime schedules have changed after the network announcements at upfronts. I'll be looking at how the various changes will impact the ratings races on each night, as well as my own DVRing habits. Readers can chime in on how their own DVRs will be impacted. And yes, this brief series assumes that anybody still watches TV on their TVs. I'm old-fashioned. I'm also probably gonna ignore that I have a fancy new six-tuner DVR that means that I really don't have to make choices anymore. This will assume that I make choices for my own sanity.] Sunday Nights 7:00 p.m. ABC: "America's Funniest Home Videos" CBS: "60 Minutes" Fox: "The Ot," "Bob's Burgers" NBC: NFL Pre-Game 8:00 p.m.  ABC: "Once Upon a Time" CBS: "Madam Secretary" Fox: "The Simpsons," "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" NBC: Sunday Night Football 9 p.m. ABC: "Blood and Oil" CBS: "The Good Wife" Fox: "Family Guy," "The Last Man on Earth" NBC: Sunday Night Football 10 p.m. ABC: "Of Kings and Prophets" CBS: "CSI: Cyber" NBC: Sunday Night Football What's Changed: There's a reasonable amount of sameness here. CBS is bringing "CSI: Cyber" into the 10 p.m. hour, but if you'll recall, that's actually what CBS initially announced for last season before some tweaking took place. Oh and if you live on the East Coast, you can count on everything starting at semi-random times depending on the week and the football matchup. Fox is sticking with its spring lineup with "The Last Man on Earth »

TV Ratings: Coca-Cola 600 coverage races to Sunday for Fox

25 May 2015 9:53 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Fast National ratings for Sunday, May 24, 2015. Carl Edwards' victory in Nascar's Coca-Cola 600 helped Fox race to primetime victory in all measures on a slow out-of-season Sunday night. Of course, due to the live nature of Fox's ratings, these numbers are preliminary and subject to change. Fox dominated the limited competition, which consisted mostly of repeats other than on NBC, where original episodes of "A.D. The Bible Continues" and "American Odyssey" continued to draw impressively low numbers.  Also original on Sunday? CBS' series finale of "Battle Creek," which remained low. Let's get to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, Fox averaged a 1.4 rating for Sunday night, easily tops in the key demographic. NBC and CBS both averaged a 0.6 key demo rating for a distant second, followed by ABC's 0.5 key demo rating. Overall, Fox averaged an estimated 6.12 million viewers and a 3.6 rating/7 share for Sunday night. CBS was second with 4.425 million viewers and »

Reality TV Fights Back Against Decline

21 May 2015 10:30 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The cancellation of "American Idol" was not exactly shocking, but it does signal the end of a certain era. Reality television is in decline on broadcast networks during their non-summer season. Yet this does not mean the end of reality TV. Sorry, those who love to drag out and wave around old, decomposing arguments. Here's how the reality TV week will break down in the fall on the five broadcast networks: —Sundays: one hour, counting "America's Funniest Home Videos" at 7 p.m. on ABC, which I am only because it's there. —Mondays: four hours, with each ABC and NBC giving the 8 to 10 timeslot to a competition series. —Tuesdays: two hours, "The Voice"'s results show and "Best Time Ever with Neil Patrick Harris. —Wednesdays: one hour: "Survivor." —Thursdays: zero hours. —Fridays, five hours, though one of those is "World's Funniest Fails," and that barely qualifies as television. That's 13 hours of »

Watch Jamie Foxx's Perfect John Legend Impression on 'Tonight Show'

20 May 2015 10:02 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Grammy and Oscar winner Jamie Foxx flexed both his musical and comedic talents while partaking in a game of "Wheel of Musical Impressions" on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.

The late-night talk show's game has Fallon and his guest hitting a button to get a random pairing of a famous singer with a jingle, TV show theme or children's song. Foxx started off the game by singing The Lion King's "Hakuna Matata" in the style of Mick Jagger, strutting across the stage and perfectly imitating the Rolling Stones' singer's flamboyant swagger. »

Alfonso Ribeiro is the New Host of America's Funniest Home Videos

Tom Bergeron may have ended his 14-year run as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos this weekend, but the funny isn't over yet!  It was announced on tonight's Dancing with the Stars finale that last season's champion Alfonso Ribeiro will be taking over the long-running ABC series, and it's pretty much a perfect choice. Right after he performed with fellow season 19 contestant Sadie Robertson, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air star was joined on stage by Bergeron to make the announcement, and Carlton looked nothing short of thrilled. "You have given me so much love and support in doing this," he said to Bergeron. "I'm so proud."  Bergeron had some »

Alfonso Ribeiro Will Be the New Host of America’s Funniest Home Videos

19 May 2015 8:30 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

The new guy who will show the country embarrassing and hilarious clips as host of America's Funniest Home Videos will be none other than Alfonso Ribeiro, a.k.a. Carlton Banks, a.k.a. last season's king of Dancing With the Stars. Fittingly enough, the news was announced by the show's current host, Tom Bergeron, on tonight's finale of DWTS. Ribeiro will usher in the 26th season of the show, ABC's longest-running prime-time entertainment franchise, this fall. "After receiving hundreds of inquiries, stacks of video submissions, and a very close audition race, one smile, one funny and sincere delivery became our standout favorite — Alfonso Riberio," executive producer Vin Di Bona said in a statement. Amen. Long live Carlton and the Carlton. May they both enjoy a successful decade (at least!) of showing this nation how funny and clumsy it is. »

Weekend TV Ratings: Billboard Music Awards Up from 2014; Bob’S Burgers Down

18 May 2015 11:20 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The weekend TV ratings for Friday, May 15th through Sunday, May 17th are in; here are some of the highlights: NBC's Friday night hit Grimm's season finale saw an uptick in the 18-49 demo, coming in at 1.1 from last week's 1.0. Even though Shark Tank was down during its own season finale from 1.6 to 1.5 in the key demos, it still won the Friday night gauntlet out for ABC, tied with Beyond the Tank. Amongst the slew of reruns, CBS's reality procedural 48 Hours saw a 13 percent rise from last week's 0.8 to this week's 0.9 in the 18-49 demographic.
