Chris Rock on Bill Cosby, White People and Women in Comedy

1 December 2014 12:17 PM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Chris Rock is getting more candid -- and serious -- than ever.

The 49-year-old comedian recently gave one of his most in-depth interviews ever to New York Magazine, not holding back on topics ranging from the recent rape allegations against Bill Cosby, his thoughts on female comedians and race relations in America.

When asked if any comedian was ever "disdainful" to him when he was first starting out in his career, Chris quickly calls out Cosby.

"I mean, maybe Cosby early on, but he turned pretty quick," he shares.

Commenting on the recent multiple sexual assault accusations against the 77-year-old comedian, Chris goes so far as to liken the situation to the deaths of Joan Rivers and Robin Williams.

"I grew up on Cosby," Chris says. "I love Cosby, and I just hope it's not true. It's a weird year for comedy. We lost Robin, we lost Joan, and we kind of lost Cosby."

3 Modern Technologies That Should Be The Subject Of Hollywood Film

26 November 2014 12:57 PM, PST | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Cinema, as a medium, has been quick to implement technological advances to maintain relevancy within an competitive market. However, in terms of subject matter, filmmakers have remained wary to incorporate modern inventions within their film’s narratives. This is somewhat understandable; you need only look at You’ve Got Mail to see how quickly a contemporary technology can age a film. This 2000’s rom-com’s central romance is reliant upon email and anonymous chatrooms. Whilst prevalent in the early-noughties, this mode of communication is now all but dead with the invention of social-media. Therefore You’ve Got Mail is prohibited from achieving the timelessness of canonical rom-coms, such as When Harry Met Sally, as its technologically redundant central plot-device fixes the film in an era so fleeting as to be unrecognisable to many viewers.

However, with technological advancements stabilising and social-media still rising rather then declining, it was inevitable that »

One Direction Dances to Taylor Swift's 'Shake It Off' in Their Underwear

24 November 2014 8:08 AM, PST | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

There is one universal fact of the world: When people are by themselves at home or getting dressed to go out, they dance around to pop music in their underwear.

Tom Cruise did it in Risky Business to the hit "Old Time Rock and Roll," Cameron Diaz did it in Charlie's Angels while listening to "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel," and Niall Horan from One Direction apparently does it while listening to Taylor Swift's "Shake It Off."

Et's Rocsi Diaz caught up with the guys of One Direction on the red carpet at the 2014 American Music Awards – before their wildly successful night - and asked them the question that really matters.

After Rocsi admitted that she dances in her underwear to the records of One Direction, she asked the guys who they listen to while rocking out in their boxers.

Lorde, Taylor, Pitbull: Here’s Everything You Missed at the 2014 American Music Awards

24 November 2014 6:08 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Did you miss last night's American Music Awards? It's okay! We've got your highlights right here. The show was 99 percent performances and a bunch of awards that you probably don't even care about. (Here's the complete winners list.) Pitbull hosted again, which was a great idea because he's great — you either love him ironically or sincerely. Either way, Pitbull for president:Before we really get started, the  Most Important thing that happened on the red carpet was when Harry Styles quoted When Harry Met Sally and no one around him realized: (Except for me. I see you, Harry, and I fully understand your hype now.) Taylor opened the show with her stunningly misandrist interpretation of "Blank Space." We (women) are all so very lucky to have this girl around: And then she took her place in the front row (duh) with her BFFs Lorde, Selena Gomez, Sam Smith, and »

The When Harry Met Sally star won America over in the late '80s into the early '90s with her memorable roles in Sleepless in Seattle, You've Got Mail and more guilty pleasure flicks. In recent years the celeb has made fewer red carpet appearances, and has made headlines for her changing look and on-again, off-again relationship with John Mellencamp. Film Review: 'Love, Rosie'

26 October 2014 7:13 AM, PDT | CineVue | See recent CineVue news »

★★☆☆☆Etching another notch on the bedpost of the already crowded will they/won't they? vein of romantic comedy, Love, Rosie (2014) boasts a fresh-faced cast whose star power will inevitably be bolstered by appearing in this heinious exercise in ignoble triviality. Directed by Christian Ditter and adapted from Cecelia Ahern's 2004 novel Where Rainbows End, Love, Rosie is ostensibly the iPhone generation's When Harry Met Sally (1989) - a saccharin-drenched drama that rarely merits the chemistry its central cast ably displays. The film sees Lily Collins plays the titular Rosie opposite Sam Claflin's Alex, two best friends who've grown up together side by side. »

Meg Ryan Boards Teen Comedy Fan Girl

23 October 2014 3:30 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

It’s been some time since Meg Ryan has lit up the big screen in a comedy. After abandoning her 80s persona initiated by her now-synonymous role in When Harry Met Sally, the actress dove into darker projects around the early 2000s. To be honest, who wouldn’t want to star in a gritty Jane Campion drama in just your birthday suit? Still, that was some ten years back, and following a dabble in forgettable fare such as The Women and Serious Moonlight, Ryan could be in line to rekindle her cinematic career with Fan Girl.

Under the direction of Paul Jarrett, the film will apparently follow a by-the-numbers teen movie formula. The story is “about a 15-year-old post-Millennial teen who lives for making movies and idolizing her favorite band. Given only a few days to complete a final film project, she comes up with an idea that could bring her two passions together. »

Film Review: ‘Love, Rosie’

18 October 2014 3:48 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

A full quarter-century has passed since Nora Ephron deftly articulated the pitfalls of platonic friendship between men and women in “When Harry Met Sally…”. Yet if “Love, Rosie” is to be believed, a whole new generation of adults has arrived at much the same conclusion Ephron did: In the movies, at least, the sex part always gets in the way. A thoroughly likeable English-language debut for German comedy helmer Christian Ditter, this marzipan-sweet adaptation of Cecelia Ahern’s 2004 bestseller “Where Rainbows End” is elevated by vibrant visuals and the winsome chemistry of Lily Collins and Sam Claflin. Cast as childhood BFFs who dance around their true feelings for each other through multiple decades, countries and partners, this inordinately pretty star pairing lends youthful appeal to a rom-com that could also woo the adult chick-lit crowd.

With its twelve-year narrative timeframe, comfy middle-class Britishisms and sparky pairing of striving, pure-hearted girl and raffish, »

Review: Finely Tuned And Tender 'The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby' Starring Jessica Chastain & James McAvoy

10 October 2014 2:03 PM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

This is a reprint of our review from the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival. You’d think that with all the sappy romantic comedies that exist—"When Harry Met Sally" and Richard Linklater’s 'Before...' series (just to name the most beloved)—that relationship films have run their course and said all they’ve got to say. But then this year the Palme D’Or was awarded to a film that deals with the evolution of a single relationship in a potent and tender way, and while many talked about the importance of the film in terms of sexual politics, this reviewer looked at "Blue is the Warmest Color" more as a remarkably well made relationship film. Now it has some serious competition. Filmmaker Ned Benson has been working on his “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby” project for over 7 years. Having met Jessica Chastain 10 years ago, during a film festival »

Billy Crystal to Lead & Co-Write Jim Henson Company's 'Which Witch'

10 October 2014 11:25 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

Though he's one of the most iconic comedy stars of all-time, Billy Crystal has laid pretty low key over the past decade. With the exception of voice work in Monsters University, the actor has only starred in a handful of films. We would say that he's picky, but those films have been the terrible comedies Parental Guidance and Small Apartments. But we're rather interested in a new project Crystal has lined up as Variety reports the When Harry Met Sally and City Slickers star will write, produce and star in Which Witch, a new animated film at The Jim Henson Company with Brian Henson in the director's chair. More below! The film is based on Eva Ibbotson’s 1979 book which follows a wizard who holds a contest among the seven witches of Todcaster to determine which one of them he will marry. Crystal says, "When Brian Henson called me about it, »

B.J. Novak Responds to Mindy Kaling's Revelation That She Once Wanted to Marry Him

If there's ever a When Harry Met Sally... remake, it should star B.J. Novak and Mindy Kaling. The amicable exes met as writers on NBC's The Office, and to this day, they continue to support each other both on- and off-screen. On Tuesday, in fact, Kaling tweeted a picture of herself holding Novak's The Book With No Pictures. "No one bother me," the Mindy Project star wrote. "I'm reading it all day." Later that night, Novak was asked how he felt about Kaling revealing she once considered marrying him. "I thought it was...it sounded to me an honest and heartfelt account of a complicated and mostly wonderful relationship," the author said on Bravo's Watch What Happens »

This is the Part I Really Like: Top ten movie-in-movie moments

23 September 2014 6:30 AM, PDT | Cineplex | See recent Cineplex news »

Sometimes it’s just a joke, sometimes it has hidden meaning, and sometimes it’s simply the director showing off their eclectic taste in all things celluloid (read: Quentin Tarantino). But one thing’s for sure: the annals of cinema history are littered with movie-in-movie moments.

The granddaddy of movie-in-movie moments comes from The Shawshank Redemption – released twenty years ago today. So in honour of its anniversary, we thought we’d go all “meta” by looking back at ten of the most memorable movie-in-movie moments to grace the multiplex.

Gilda (1946) in The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Though it’s probably a little bit cruel to show prison inmates Rita Hayworth at her finest, this 40’s classic plays a prominent role in the film’s plot as Andy later uses a poster from the 1946 noir to cover the entrance to the tunnel that he’s painstakingly carved out of the prison walls.
