A British War Vetran in pastel form.
emasterslake21 November 2005
This is a Stop Motion animated film by Peter Lord from Aardman the company that did Wallace and Gromit.

It's a short about a Vetran telling his service in the War. It shows flashbacks of his younger self to make things less boring.

It's more of a short documentary than a clay animated cartoon.

Please note that the War Vetran has a British English accent that's hard to understand when hearing him speak. Luckily the flashbacks give an idea what he's talking about.

Nothing inappropriate in it. A kid might ask "Why is the old man mumbling a lot?" You try to think of an explanation that's easy for he or she to understand.

A nicely done short with some humor here and there. A good example of how a British Man served in WW2.

I give it an 7/10

Interesting short in a series of sorts done by Aardman Animations

Warning: Spoilers
This is a short released by Aardman Animations. There will be mild spoilers ahead:

Aardman did a number of shorts which are loosely connected by their inspiration-audio recordings of people which were then used as the basis for the animation. Creature Comforts is probably the best known of these shorts War Story is another of them. It takes the reminiscences of one Bill Perry and basically turns his words into an animated short. Though not quite as successful as Creature Comforts, it's fascinating in its own right, creating humorous animation to correspond with what Perry tells his interviewer.

This short deviates slightly from the typical short done this way in having the interviewer turn up. They generally removed the interviewer and the questions and just used the subject's answers. But they used a funny exchange between Perry and the interviewer, Peter Lawrence.

This short is included as an extra on the Blu-Ray release of the feature The Pirates: Band of Misfits. The feature is good and this short is worth watching. Recommended.
