The production had a torrid time trying to cast a Hollywood actor to play Dexter. Most of those under consideration were either too expensive or not interested in a film that at the time contained nobody that they had heard of in the US. In the end Jeff Goldblum accepted, expecting the film to not amount to much. However he was surprised to find out the film was a big hit in the UK & Europe and finally got a small release in the US a year and a half later. It also opened up other film offers from the UK and Europe, resulting in him becoming something of a cult actor and indirectly led to him being cast in Jurassic Park (1993) a few years later.
