What’s Coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime in November 2017

What’s Coming to Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime in November 2017
November may mean the end of Halloween, but that doesn’t mean that the creepy fun has to end as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon continue to add some freaky films to November’s list of streaming content.

Netflix will start the month off with films like “Oculus” and “Silent Hill” for fans of big scares and “Casper” and “Scary Movie” for those who looking for a milder way to keep the Halloween spirit alive, and will also add in “9” and “Piranha” later in the month. For those who would rather leave the October spookiness behind, science fiction comedies like “Chappie” and “Men in Black” or family-friendly films like “Charlotte’s Web” and “The Boss Baby” should make for fun movie nights.

Hulu will also keep the frights coming with offerings like “Bram Stoker’s Dracula” and “Beowulf,” but will also get a headstart on the winter holiday season with “Christmas with the Cranks,” Happy Christmas,” and collection

The James Bond movies' special relationship with America

Mark Harrison Sep 19, 2017

Kingsman pulls the leg of the James Bond series - but how have the 007 films put across the relationship between Britain and the USA?

When Matthew Vaughn's Kingsman: The Secret Service exploded into cinemas in 2015, it gave the iconic James Bond franchise much the same irreverent treatment that the director's previous Mark Millar adaptation, Kick-Ass, gave to comic book movies. Reviews focused on how the film recontextualised the familiar 007 tropes of guns, girls and gadgets through the lens of class, identity and that notorious final bum note.

In the sequel, Eggsy and the Kingsmen run up against a crime syndicate known as the Golden Circle with a little help from their American cousins, the Statesmen. It neatly shows us that American iconography plays much the same role for their opposite numbers, that liquor-themed codenames will stand in for Arthurian monikers, and most accurately of all, that

Hollywood Reporter: James Bond Franchise Attracting Major Players

  • CinemaRetro
By Lee Pfeiffer

The Hollywood Reporter has published an article detailing the major players who are vying to gain at least some control over rights to the James Bond franchise, which -according to the article- is deemed to be under-utilizing its true potential for profitability. Warner Brothers is said to be the front runner for gaining distribution rights for the next film in the series, set for release in November 2019. Daniel Craig will star in what he has stated will be his last appearance in a Bond film.  Among the top bidders in competition with Warners are newly-emerging entertainment powerhouses Amazon and Apple, both of which would like to expand the Bond image into mediums beyond feature films. However, the rights situation regarding the franchise is a complex one. Eon Productions, founded by the series' original producers Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman, owned the franchise outright and had a

How James Bond 25 could reinvent the franchise

Mark Harrison Jul 26, 2017

James Bond 25 will arrive in November 2019. Eon Productions still has much to consider...

This feature contains spoilers for Spectre.

It was announced this week that James Bond Will Return in November 2019, for the 25th movie in the series. After the box office reception and subsequent backlash against the previous film, 2015's Spectre, there has been much speculation about the next film taking on a radically different approach, from casting to storytelling.

The signs strongly point towards Daniel Craig reprising his role for a fifth time, according to a report in the Mirror earlier this month and a recent confirmation in the New York Times that his return was “a done deal”. Despite Craig's much repeated quote about slashing his wrists rather than returning, which the actor has since put down to being overtired by the junket schedule, it certainly looks like he's coming back for one last go.

James Bond 25, and the untapped stories of the novels

Mark Allison Feb 22, 2017

Iam Fleming's James Bond novels still have narratives and ideas that haven't made it to the 007 movie series...

A spoiler lies ahead for Spectre

See related The world of the Peaky Blinders

Over the course of 11 years, Ian Fleming wrote 12 James Bond novels and nine short stories before his death in 1964, forming the basis for the film series which survives to the present day. 24 films and 55 years since the birth of the cinematic Bond, it might come as a surprise that the franchise hasn’t completely exhausted its source material. More often than not, however, the James Bond films have been adaptations in name only.

Starting with Roald Dahl’s outlandish screenplay for the fifth Bond film, You Only Live Twice, the film scripts began to drift away from their literary inspirations. For most of Roger Moore’s seven-film tenure, for example, entire plots and characters were

No action hero ever fights for right for its own sake anymore, it’s always because of some heightened sense of family loyalty or personal duty – a ‘me’ motive. My

James Bond, and the perils of casting a new 007

Mark Harrison Oct 14, 2016

With the question of who's playing James Bond in James Bond 25 unresolved, we look back at the casting conundrums 007 has faced before.

Since 1962, fewer men have played James Bond than have walked on the moon. Despite the relatively long turnaround of the role, the subject of who might follow in the footsteps of Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig in the future has fuelled many column inches and tabloid splashes.

It feels as if speculation about the seventh 007 in Eon Productions' long-lived spy franchise has been at fever pitch since this time last year, when Craig was doing the promotional rounds for Spectre and commented that he would rather “slash [his] wrists” than play Bond again. It's only after a year of constant reports on the subject that his far more optimistic comments at last weekend's New Yorker Festival

James Bond Ally Felix Leiter To Debut In New Comic Book

  • CinemaRetro
By Lee Pfeiffer

Felix Leiter, the CIA agent who assisted James Bond in both novels and on screen, is finally getting into the spotlight on his own via a new series of comic book adventures authorized by the Ian Fleming estate. The comics will be written by James Robinson with artwork by Aaron Campbell, both of whom have impressive credentials in the industry. The series will be published by Dynamite. Based on the preliminary artwork, this ain't your grandad's version of Felix Leiter. In the Bond films he tends to be as dapper and sophisticated as 007 himself but the comics will present Leiter as a freelance investigator who looks more "Miami Vice" than "Casino Royale". According to the publicity, Leiter will still be involved in the world of espionage. Bond fans have long griped about the character of Leiter not being used to his fullest potential on screen. Not helping

Spectre: one year on, where's it left the James Bond series?

Simon Brew Oct 10, 2016

There’s little sign of a new James Bond film yet, and Spectre has left lots of questions behind. So what now, 007?

Update: here's a story that landed this morning, of relevance to this article.

This article contains light spoilers for Spectre.

At the end of October 2015, the 24th James Bond film, Spectre, enjoyed its global premiere. Following the massive success of Skyfall, hopes were understandably high for Spectre, and it quickly notched up some strong – and not so strong – reviews. Originally rumoured to be the first of a two part story (with a suggestion that it be filmed back to back with James Bond 25), Spectre would prove to be a big box office hit too. As Bond drove off into the sunset at the end of the film, the next adventure was surely an inevitability.

But something wasn’t quite right. And one year later,
