Fun Stuff

Trivia:
Let it Ride was filmed at Hialeah Race Course in south Florida during the tracks' off season. Racing was being conducted at nearby Calder Race Course, and Dreyfuss was spotted on several occasions, presumably researching his role as Trotter. Unfortunately, this classic track is now closed, although there is an ongoing rumor that it may reopen at some point. more
Goofs:
Factual errors: Trotter visits the track's barn area several times during the film. At most U.S. racetracks, only licensed track personnel are allowed in the barn area. more
Quotes:
Looney: [after Trotter won but Looney didn't even bet] I'd hate to have to walk around this track with seven hundred dollars cash.
Jay Trotter: Seven hundred and TEN - and you'll never have that problem, because the only reason I won is that you didn't bet! You are the unluckiest person in the world!
Looney: Am not!
Jay Trotter: Am!
Looney: Am not!
Jay Trotter: Am!
[pulling out his racing form]
Jay Trotter: Who do you like in the second?
Looney: The six horse looks pretty good...
Jay Trotter: [dramatically crosses out the six horse on his racing form] You got a brother?

This is one of the all time most underrated films. It is a little film , but rarely do you see so many wonderfully funny characters in a comedy. Along with "Breaking Away", and "Harold and Maude" it falls in a special category of films I like to watch when I'm feeling life sucks. Richard Dreyfus and Teri Garr give their best performances; and the supporting cast, especially Robbie Coltrane, is terrific. Don't miss this little gem.
