'CSI:ny' books 'Dawson's Creek' alum for harrowing episode

14 September 2012 12:54 PM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

"CSI:ny" has booked "Dawson's Creek" star Meredith Monroe for a key guest-starring role in the fifth episode of the upcoming Season 9, Zap2it has learned exclusively. April is the mother of a boy who went missing 20 years ago, when he was 8 years old. Of course, April has never quite been able to overcome such a tragedy.

When the guy accused of Tommy's kidnapping turns up dead, Mac (Gary Sinise) finds himself in the middle of a 20-year-old case. In the same episode, we'll see a flashback to Don's (Eddie Cahill) childhood with his sister Sam in a memorable moment with their father.

Though best known for her work as Andie on "Dawson's Creek," Meredith Monroe has been steadily working ever since. Most recently, she starred as Jaime King's Mia mother on "Heart of Dixie" and played a widow on "Hawaii Five-0." »

AfterElton's New Fall TV Guide

4 September 2012 7:24 AM, PDT | The Backlot | See recent The Backlot news »

Fall is a hopeful time for TV viewers. Every new show is an unknown, save for a handful of promos and publicity photos and we're waiting to find out if the show lives up to the promise of a great idea or... withers away to inspire case studies of failure analysis.

But overall, this fall lacks the "me too" quality that so often characterizes a TV season.

The one trend that does stand out this season are strong ideas that don't quite meet their potential in the pilot. Vegas, Last Resort, 666 Park Avenue and The Mindy Project are some of the pilots that left critics hoping that later episodes fix the rough spots. »
