Neil Gaiman TV adaptation American Gods pushes on at Starz, with Ricky Whittle cast in the lead role of Shadow...

Forthcoming Starz adaptation, American Gods, has cast its Shadow, and unusually (though perhaps not at all unusually considering Us TV's love of giving limeys American accents), it's gone for a Brit.

Ricky Whittle, seen recently in The 100, is the man for the job.

Whittle made his name here in the UK on soap Hollyoaks and football drama The Dream Team, before doing a stint in sequins on Strictly Come Dancing then relocating across the Atlantic for Mistresses and the aforementioned The 100.

He'll be playing Shadow Moon, the American Gods lead, who begins Gaiman's novel as a recently released ex-con with a mysterious past and a penchant for coin tricks. When Shadow's path crosses with that of Wednesday, things get seriously weird for him. And we mean seriously. »
