The title is a pun, based on "cutting class," which is skipping or not showing up for class for some unauthorized reason, and because a killer is running around cutting people's throats. See more »

An interesting cast hams it up, but it's still just so-so
(** out of *****)
Notable mainly for starring Brad Pitt in an early role (and foreshadowing some of the morally ambiguous characters he would later play), this mediocre horror-comedy also stars former Pitt-girlfriend Jill Schoelen (from "The Stepfather") and Roddy McDowall and Martin Mull in humorous cameos (Roddy as the school principal who has a thing for the student body -- the female student body, that is -- and Mull as a yuppie duck hunter who spends the entire film staggering home with an arrow in his chest). But, otherwise, you get some mildly inventive murders (one teacher is strangled to death on top of a copy machine, the art teacher is baked alive in his kiln, and the gym teacher gets a flag pole up the wazzoo) and a whodunit premise that gets kind of tiresome after a while. Donovan Leitch plays a teen misfit stalking Schoelen who keeps popping up out of nowhere every five minutes (it gets real annoying.)
Lowlight: Today's Lesson: Don't jump on a trampoline if there's somebody underneath it with a long flag pole. Class dismissed.
