Storyline

High school student Paula Carson's affections are being sought after by two of her classmates: Dwight, the "bad boy", and Brian, a disturbed young man who has just been released from a mental hospital where he was committed following the suspicious death of his father. Soon after being released, more murders start happening. Is Brian back to his old tricks, or is Dwight just trying to eliminate the competition? Written by Jean-Marc Rocher <rocher@fiberbit.net>

Trivia

The title is a pun, based on "cutting class," which is skipping or not showing up for class for some unauthorized reason, and because a killer is running around cutting people's throats. See more »

Goofs

When Schultz (the custodian/janitor) is talking to Dwight and Paula, Dwight is holding Paula's hand with his left hand. When he walks away, it's his right hand that he removes so he can NOW grasp her hand with his left hand. See more »

An interesting cast hams it up, but it's still just so-so
13 May 2003 | by (Vancouver) – See all my reviews

(** out of *****)

Notable mainly for starring Brad Pitt in an early role (and foreshadowing some of the morally ambiguous characters he would later play), this mediocre horror-comedy also stars former Pitt-girlfriend Jill Schoelen (from "The Stepfather") and Roddy McDowall and Martin Mull in humorous cameos (Roddy as the school principal who has a thing for the student body -- the female student body, that is -- and Mull as a yuppie duck hunter who spends the entire film staggering home with an arrow in his chest). But, otherwise, you get some mildly inventive murders (one teacher is strangled to death on top of a copy machine, the art teacher is baked alive in his kiln, and the gym teacher gets a flag pole up the wazzoo) and a whodunit premise that gets kind of tiresome after a while. Donovan Leitch plays a teen misfit stalking Schoelen who keeps popping up out of nowhere every five minutes (it gets real annoying.)

Lowlight: Today's Lesson: Don't jump on a trampoline if there's somebody underneath it with a long flag pole. Class dismissed.
