Some dreams can kill, 17 March 2013
Author: sgtking from United States

In the 80s, it seemed just about every week a new Horror film came out. As the decade went on, it became more and more about the money. Not that films like 'A Nightmare on Elm Street 5' and 'Friday the 13th part VIII' aren't fun, they just feel more like products. Fewer Horror films with heart were being made that eschewed the gore in favor of suspense. 'Beyond Dream's Door' is a film made by people who love what they do. It was made outside the studio system, and is one of the most thoughtful you could find.

Pros: Game cast. Quite well written. Suspenseful. Effective score. Some decent effects. Eerie, surreal atmosphere. A few good shocks. Steady pace.

Cons: A couple wooden performances. Dated. Some weak effects.

Final thoughts: 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' may have done it first, but this film does it differently. Sure, the low budget shows and the acting isn't the greatest, but for the most part the film works. A group of young actors and filmmakers making a film on a budget can be movie magic. Like 'Halloween' the result is a film better and more memorable than what the studios cook up. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy.

My rating: 4/5
