First official 'Prometheus' poster arrives online

14 December 2011 5:08 PM, PST | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The first official teaser poster for "Prometheus" does just what it was intended to do - tease - while giving us the foreboding tagline "The Search For Our Beginning Could Lead To Our End". Uh-oh... Visually, the new one-sheet is somewhat reminiscent of the poster for "Alien" - which Scott also directed and which "Prometheus" will function as something of a prequel to (just how much it will tie in to the former remains to be seen) - but ironically, it's actually more evocative of the DVD cover for "Aliens" director James Cameron's 1989 submarine sci-fi "The Abyss" Special Edition, with its »

Jurassic Park: Ultimate Trilogy Blu-ray Review

1 November 2011 8:03 AM, PDT | TheHDRoom | See recent TheHDRoom news »

Prior to the summer of 1993, everything in the movie world was as it had always been.

After that summer, everything was different.

The difference-maker was a simple monster movie. Yup. That's all it was - a simplistic, almost paint-by-numbers tale of ordinary people on the run from giant monsters. On the surface, that really doesn't sound like enough to get worked up about.

Then again, the name of this monster movie was Jurassic Park. And its director was Steven Spielberg.

And a monster movie is exactly what audiences were expecting when they filed into movie theaters that summer. When they emerged two hours and seven minutes later, their eyes were open to a brand new world of filmmaking.

A world in which dinosaurs and humans could share the screen; it was a world where within a few years it was conceivable that you might be able to look at a »

23 October 2011 6:10 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

If you're a film nerd, you know who Dennis Muren, Phil Tippett and John Rosengrant are.  That's because between the three of them, they’ve worked on some of the biggest sci-fi films of the last 35 years including Star Wars, E.T., The Abyss, Robocop, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Iron Man, and Terminator 2.  So when I got to speak with the three of them to discuss their incredible work on Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, it was a bit challenging, as I could have spent all day asking them questions about dozens of films.  But I only had five minutes… During my limited time with these masters of visual effects, we talked about what they did on Jurassic Park, the 24-month pre-production schedule, what changed along the way, and what hurdles visual effects are about to overcome.  In addition, with Tippett and Rosengrant working on The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, »

Quick Shooter: A Clint Eastwood Profile (Part 4)

Trevor Hogg profiles the career of Hollywood icon Clint Eastwood in the fourth of a five part feature (read parts one, two and three)...

“What I liked about this script is that it is faithful to the book, contrary to some previous versions, which had eliminated elements that in my opinion had to be preserved,” stated Clint Eastwood who chose to cinematically adapt White Hunter Black Heart (1990); the fictional tale was inspired by experiences of screenwriter Peter Viertel during the production of The African Queen (1951). “He told me that during the filming, Huston became hostile to Sam Spiegel, though he’d worked with him before. In his autobiography Huston says he was searching for a period of three weeks he could use to go on safari while in Africa. That’s what gave Peter Viertel the impetus to write his novel. He was in the presence of someone surrounded by all his technical crew, »

Getting Naked and Doing Dirty Things with Michael Biehn

7 October 2011 1:02 PM, PDT | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

As I sat in the Alamo Drafthouse last week, waiting to chat with Michael Biehn, I couldn't help wondering who exactly would show up.

In a career that has spanned more than three decades, Biehn has played every type of character imaginable. Would I be talking to the hardass Navy Seal from The Abyss, or the concerned dad from Havoc, or perhaps the crazy cowboy from Tombstone ?

Biehn was in town for SplatterFest, Houston's premier horror film festival, where he was presenting his debut as a writer/director, The Victim, a hard-charging revenge thriller that instantly morphs any theater into a smoky, sticky-floored grindhouse.

So, I shouldn't have been too surprised when the affable, low-key man who eventually sat down with me revealed himself to be neither a time-traveling freedom fighter nor a Special Forces soldier. No, the Michael Biehn I interviewed had assumed a brand-new role: filmmaker.

Watch James Cameron's Cameos in Avatar, Titanic and Aliens

7 October 2011 1:54 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

Plenty of filmmakers throw themselves into their films. Actors like Clint Eastwood and Ben Affleck like to take lead roles, while M Night Shyamalan appears as a supporting character. Today, we found out that James Cameron has had a role in almost all of his films, mostly in the form of an off-screen voice cameo. Check out the video below to hear Cameron's voice in such movies as "Terminator," "Aliens," "The Abyss," "Terminator 2," "True Lies," "Titanic" and "Avatar." It feels that Cameron never actually plans to put himself in the films, but is forced to make adjustments during editing and decides to use his own voice when needed. Video: »

The Collected Voice Cameos Of James Cameron

6 October 2011 2:30 PM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Alfred Hitchcock did it, so why not James Cameron? Hitchcock loved to cameo in his own films and, though many people don't know it, Cameron does the same. Cameron, however, didn't physically appear on Judgement Day or live on Pandora. Instead the Oscar-winning director of the two most successful films in history has made a voice cameo in every single movie he's ever done. The website FILMdetail has put together an great six-minute video highlighting this phenomenon and you'll chuckle at some of the places Cameron's voice pops up. Check it out after the jump. A huge thanks to FILMdetail [1] for this great video. Here goes. Here's who Cameron voices in each film. Watch the video for more details. The Terminator - He's the hotel clerk when Sarah and Kyle check in. Aliens - He's part of the voice of the Queen Alien. The Abyss - He voices a pilot asking for clearance. »

Xavier Gens (Frontier(s), Hitman) returns with a paranoia driven, end of the world film with The Divide.  Following nine residents hiding in the basement of a New York apartment building, The Divide is another entry into the post-apocalyptic genre that seems a bit crowded as of late.  Hopefully with the addition of everyone’s favorite 80′s action star, Michael Biehn (Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss) , Xavier Gens’ psychological thriller can stand out amongst the rest of the films of devastation.  The film is set for a January 13, 2012 release date.  For more info on the film, visit the official website Here.   Shock till you Drop has the first look at the poster which you can also view below.  Enjoy!

WTFilms Grabs Rights to The Victim

Wtf? Rights to sell The Victim, written, directed by and starring Michael Biehn (The Terminator, The Abyss, Aliens), were purchased by WTFilms. Omg! Rotfl!

This is the directorial debut for sci-fi stud Biehn, who made a big name for himself teaming with legendary director James Cameron early in his career. Biehn stars as a recluse living in the woods who is thrust into the middle of a murder plot.

Seeing all the hats he wore in the production of The Victim, Biehn obviously has put his heart and soul into the film. We've got a lot of faith in him. Let's see if he delivers! Having debuted at Scarefest in Lexington, Kentucky, earlier this month, The Victim goes international in early October for the Sitges Film Festival.

Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton Make 'Joyful Noise'

23 September 2011 4:07 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Queen Latifah and Dolly Parton isn't a team-up we'd imagine in a million years, and yet it seems like it was a long time coming.

The alpha females that make up cinema's latest odd couple argue and sing their way through the new musical comedy, "Joyful Noise."

The story of two headstrong opposites reluctantly joining forces to face some Seemingly Insurmountable Task certainly isn't a new one, but individually these two ladies have enough personality to fill ten movies -- so imagine what they could do if they worked together.

Anyway, even if it's not the most original movie in the world, "Joyful Noise" looks like it has a heart as big as Texas (Dolly has most certainly spent some time in that state!), and that definitely counts for a lot these days. And it was directed by Todd Graff, who scurried around with a pet rat on his shoulder in "The Abyss. »
