The Aquaman TV Show That Failed To Make A Splash

Neil Calloway looks at the less than successful Aquaman TV pilot from 2006…

Though we’ve seen brief glimpses of him in Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, the release of Justice League this weekend gives cinemagoers will get their first experience of Aquaman on the big screen. It turns out he isn’t a superhero who flies around the world to a soundtrack of that Danish band who sung Barbie Girl, but rather someone who has exceptional underwater abilities.

He might not be well known to the general public, but if you’d have said Iron Man to all but the biggest comic book fan before 2008 they’d think you were talking about a particularly taxing triathlon rather than a Elon Musk like superhero. As with most comic book characters, there have been previous attempts to bring him to the screen. After a version of the character appearing in an

Eva Longoria Thinks Mario Lopez's 'Wig Is a Little Too Puffy' - and He Wants You to Weigh In

Eva Longoria Thinks Mario Lopez's 'Wig Is a Little Too Puffy' - and He Wants You to Weigh In
In the ’90s, Mario Lopez‘s curly permed hair from Saved By The Bell was the height of hair achievement. But these days 44-year-old Extra host’s slicked back coif hits new heights in a different way. Although the star has been candid with his struggle with thinning hair in the past (he teamed up with Nioxin in 2013) Lopez’s locks are more voluminous than ever these days. Perhaps too voluminous, as Lopez heard in no uncertain terms from his friend Eva Longoria.

As Lopez announced on his Instagram, Longoria has just delivered the news that he badly needs a haircut.

“Don’t let anyone bite you”: Close-Up on David Cronenberg's "Rabid"

  • MUBI
Close-Up is a feature that spotlights films now playing on Mubi. David Cronenberg's Rabid (1977) is playing October 6 - November 5, 2017 in the United States as part of the series Prelude to Halloween.David Cronenberg is not my favorite director, but he is my favorite Canadian. Google him discussing Ferraris. Google him appearing on hokey chat shows in his twenties, his name embossed onscreen in Saved by the Bell shades of neon. Google him talking, period. His voice, a learned, Torontonian drawl, is as soothing and understated as his early films are not. Leonard Cohen was Canada’s collective father. Cronenberg is our cool uncle. No body of work is so clinical and so salacious, or so Canadian. David Lynch is the obvious Cronenberg counterpart. Both men have remarkable heads of hair and are named David, both luxuriate in texture, both concern themselves with the underbelly, although the underbellies Cronenberg explores

Fergie Downplays Justin Timberlake Romance:
Fresh off her split from Josh Duhamel, Fergie was asked Tuesday to discuss some of her past lovers during her first-ever appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. At first, Fergie was having a blast. "This is amazing," she told Andy Cohen. "This is so much fun!" "I am sorry to say the fun is about to end," Cohen replied. "It's time for you to plead the fifth!" When the host reminded the singer she could only skip one question, Fergie whispered, "F--k!" In Mario Lopez's 2014 Memoir, Just Between Us, he chronicled his "preteen romance" with Fergie, his co-star on Kids, Incorporated. In the book, the Saved by the Bell star revealed they were...

Fullscreen Lays Off 3% Of Workforce, Will Place A “Primary Focus” On Svod Service’s Original Programming

Fullscreen is cutting some jobs. The digital media company, which works will a network of youthful online video stars, has laid off approximately 3% of its workforce as it looks to reframe its programming strategy for the Svod service it launched last year.

When reached for comment, Fullscreen did not specify the exact number of pink slips it has delivered to its employees. Variety estimated the company's workforce at around 750 people, which would put the number of layoffs at 23.

When the Fullscreen Svod service (which shares its name with the company that built it) first arrived, the plan was to offer a collection of original programs and licensed content. Many shows and movies within the former group would star Fullscreen's network partners, who count millions of followers on platforms like YouTube and Instagram. The latter group, on the other hand, would contain some amount of classic teen fare, including Saved by the Bell

Robert Pattinson Used to Live With Dustin Diamond, Who Introduced Him to the Magic of Hot Pockets
Before he was a staple of the festival circuit collaborating with world-renowned auteurs in movies like James Gray’s “The Lost City of Z” and David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars,” Robert Pattinson starred in the “Twilight” franchise. And before he got his big break in that Ya series, he was but another would-be star hoping to make it big — a period in his life that apparently included a stint as Dustin Diamond’s roommate.

Pattinson didn’t just live with the former “Saved by the Bell” star, however — he “loved it. I really miss it,” the actor revealed in a radio interview with Ryan Seacrest. The discussion was occasioned by the release of the Safdie Brothers’ “Good Time,” which premiered at Cannes earlier this year and finds a never-better Pattinson playing a low-level criminal in Queens, New York.

Dustin Diamond taught Robert Pattinson everything he knows about Hot Pockets

  • The AV Club
It’s been a while since we’ve been able to write a news story about former Saved By The Bell star Dustin Diamond without using words like “parole violation,” “sex tape,” or “barroom stabbing.” So it’s actually kind of nice to get reminded of Diamond’s softer side, courtesy of a recent radio interview with Twilight and …

Robert Pattinson, Dustin Diamond – and other unlikely Hollywood housemates

Winona Ryder and Gwyneth Paltrow, Al Gore and Tommy Lee Jones – a surprising number of roommates have shared the laundry and the limelight

Before he made millions as a brooding vampire, Robert Pattinson was a bit-part Hogwarts alumnus, fresh off the plane and in need of a bed and guiding light in Los Angeles. So who stepped up? Screech, Aka Dustin Diamond, the geek with the hair from 90s TV show Saved by the Bell.

“I loved it. I really miss it,” Pattinson said on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show of the time he and Diamond shared a flat. He added: “Dustin was the first person to introduce me to Hot Pockets!” Microwaved sandwiches? Hollywood hellraisers they were not.

You'll Scratch Your Head Just Like Rob When You Find Out Who He Used to Live With
Image Source: Getty / Lisa Maree Williams In today's "what the hell" news, Robert Pattinson decided to randomly reveal an amazing, confusing, and odd fact about himself that has us scratching our heads. While calling into On Air With Ryan Seacrest on Thursday, the Good Time actor told the host that his first roommate in Hollywood was none other than Saved by the Bell actor Dustin Diamond. The two lived in La's Oakwood apartment complex, which Ryan explained is known for housing up-and-coming actors. While it seems normal for Rob to be in those apartments back before his Twilight success, it is a bit strange that Dustin, or "Screech," was living there. Not only are we scratching our heads at the thought of Rob and Screech living together, but the star also revealed that Dustin introduced him to a classic American dish: Hot Pockets! "I was with Screech, Dustin Diamond. I loved it.

When Patrick Fabian was on Saved by the Bell: The College Years

It seems like it’d be easy to really get by on a kiss like that for 20 years. Yeah, totally. But asking for another one when you have a wife and two kids seems like it might get you into a little bit of trouble. Patrick Fabian had that message for Tiffani Amber Thiessen not that long ago when it came to the question of that kiss during Saved By the Bell: The College Years. Riot grrrls, beta males and fluid fashion: how My So-Called Life changed TV forever

The show lasted only one series, but it rewrote television’s rules, breaking down conventions and giving teens an authentic voice

Related: My So-Called Life to Utopia: are these the most foolish TV cancellations ever?

“We all felt that it was time for a teenage girl to be front and centre.” It’s weird to hear that now, but it was even weirder to hear it then. My So-Called Life creator Winnie Holzman was one of the few who felt this way in the early 90s. At the time, teen girls who were taught to be seen and not heard had started loudly rocking out to the feminist antics of the riot grrrls, but mainstream culture wasn’t playing along. The likes of Beverly Hills 90210’s Brenda Walsh and Saved by the Bell’s Kelly Kapowski were all they had for role models, conventional beauties stuck within an equally sparkling entourage.
