"My Perfect 3": Emmett Cooke

22 December 2009 6:30 AM, PST | SCOREcastOnline.com | See recent SCOREcastOnline.com news »

Editor's Note: In the spirit of December's theme (Gear and Software), we asked our contributors to weigh in with their Top 3 gear finds and why they like them, and we are bringing them to you in a series that we are calling "My Perfect 3". Here are the three that Emmett Cooke chose, and a short rundown on why he picked them.

My choices for my Perfect 3 weren't difficult ones at all. These really stand out to me as great purchases, and more importantly investments:

Krk RP5s: I bought a pair of these when I was finished college a few years back, and I still think they're pretty awesome. The first great thing about them is their price - about $150 each (which was cheaper when buying in euros). Not a bad price if you're on a budget. I didn't have much of an idea about monitors when I was buying them, »

New time-travel drama Murmurs planned by CBS

15 December 2009 9:13 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Time Travel is a staple of sci-fi on the big and small screen.

It has been the driving force behind numerous TV series over the decades including The Time Tunnel, Voyagers! and Quantum Leap as well as Sapphire & Steel, Doctor Who, Life on Mars, Primeval, Ashes to Ashes and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

If all that's not enough temporal tampering for you, American TV network CBS is developing a time-travel drama called Murmurs. It will be written by Jason Smilovic and produced by Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, says The Hollywood Reporter.

In a premise reminiscent of Voyagers! (pictured), which aired from 1982-83, Murmurs is "set in a world where time travel is a reality and centers on the Commission, an agency that detects and corrects alterations in time called murmurs, ensuring that history remains unchanged."

Smilovic broke into Hollywood with his script for Lucky Number Slevin and has since written four TV projects, »

High Definition: Men of a Certain Age

8 December 2009 1:10 AM, PST | Pastemagazine.com | See recent PasteMagazine news »

Last night, Ray Romano returned to television in the new TNT dramedy, Men of a Certain Age, and everybody did not love him. TV veterans Romano, Scott Bakula (Quantum Leap, Enterprise) and Andre Braugher (Homicide: Life on the Street) play a trio of college buddies now in their late 40s, struggling with where life has taken them. Each has a piece of the American dream, but for none of them is it enough. »

TV Review: ‘Men of a Certain Age’ Promising But Off to Dull Start

7 December 2009 10:20 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The mid-life crisis of the modern man is mostly about ego - as the body goes downhill and the role of the alpha male is supplanted by a new version of himself, men kind of fall apart as they realize that their peak has arguably passed. Why would such an individual experience make for intriguing drama? Using the mid-life crisis as a jumping off point for drama would require some seriously well-drawn characters, the kind of guys who you root to come to terms with passing over that hill. “Men of a Certain Age” does not yet have those characters.

Television Rating: 2.5/5.0

Stars Ray Romano, Andre Braugher, and Scott Bakula are undeniably talented actors who have all found massive success in television on shows like “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Homicide: Life on the Street,” and “Quantum Leap,” respectively. Watching them play characters in decline, one can’t help but think »

Men Of A Certain Age Preview

27 November 2009 9:02 AM, PST | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

TNT, who are doing pretty well in terms of original shows by my score, have a new show premiering December 7th at 10/9c, and it looks like another effort with serious potential. Men of a Certain Age stars Ray Romano, Scott Bakula, and Andre Braugher, and I like the general look of things. While I haven't had a chance to view a complete episode yet, I've seen a lot of clips and talked to several people, and I think the character interplay is going to make for a very solid show. Check out some clips and mark your calendar. Better yet, set your Tivo to record the show here. John Lennon once wrote, “Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans.” For three men entering the second act of their lives, those words are starting to hit home in TNT’s newest original series, Men Of A Certain Age. »

Scott Bakula has revealed that an issue over ownership rights is likely holding up a relaunch of sci-fi TV series Quantum Leap. The Emmy-nominated actor played Dr Sam Beckett on the NBC show from 1989 to 1993. He recently told Moviehole that a rumoured reboot of Quantum Leap is not happening any time soon. A Quantum Leap Gave Scott Bakula His 'Hollywood Breakthrough'

By Scott Bakula (to Eric Estrin)

In the series for which he’s best known, Scott Bakula’s time-traveler character kept zapping into different times and places out of his own control. Now, after memorable turns on both “Quantum Leap” and Upn’s “Star Trek: Enterprise,” Bakula is set to co-star with Ray Romano and Andre Braugher in what could be another long-running series, “Men of a Certain Age,” which premieres Dec. 7 on TNT.

He spoke with Eric Estrin about driving the “Shenandoah” tour bus, auditioning long-distance and getting beat out for »

Exclusive: I spy Robert Patrick on 'Chuck'

10 November 2009 2:32 PM, PST | EW - Ausiello Files | See recent EW.com - The Ausiello Files news »

Fans of Chuck, prepare to be transported to Nerd-vana. Following the casting of Quantum Leap’s Scott Bakula as Chuck's dad, sources confirm to me exclusively that another sci-fi icon has been tapped for the show. Robert Patrick, a.k.a. the T-1000, is slated to appear midway through the third season. But rather than coming from the future, Patrick will play Col. Keller, a mysterious figure from Casey’s past in “Chuck Versus the Tic Tac,” which I hear will be a big episode for Adam Baldwin’s newly-minted colonel. Sadly for all you Buy More shoppers, there »

Sneak Peek: Syfy's Alice

4 November 2009 1:46 PM, PST | AOL - TVSquad | See recent AOL - TVSquad news »

Syfy has become known not just for cheesy sci-fi and horror flicks but also remakes, or "reimaginings," of several classic films and shows. They had Children of the Corn recently, they had Tin Man (a modern take on The Wizard of Oz), and they have an Alien Nation remake in the works (not to mention Quantum Leap).

They're also doing Alice, which is their take on Alice in Wonderland. Here's the trailer. It premieres December 6.

Exclusive Interview: Dean Stockwell (Battlestar Galactica: The Plan)

27 October 2009 10:54 PM, PDT | TVStar | See recent TVStar news »

Humans, to John Cavil (Dean Stockwell), are just a bunch of cockroaches waiting to be squashed and if he -- or better phrased it -- has his way, mankind will be crushed by their very own creation, the Cylons. Cavil, of course, is a Cylon, and fans of Battlestar Galactica glimpsed the always-sardonic Cavil and several other Cavil models in action over the course of a dozen-plus episodes of the show. Now, the Cavils are back in the new direct-to-dvd movie Battlestar Galactica: The Plan, which fills in the blanks about the Cylons' infamous plot and reveals the hows/whats/whys of several popular characters' disturbing actions. In fact, two of the Cavils -- John and Brother Cavil -- are the central figures in The Plan, which stars Dean Stockwell as the Cavils, was directed by former Battlestar Galactica regular Edward James Olmos, and is out Oct. 27 on DVD. Critics Weigh In On 'Battlestar Galactica: The Plan'

27 October 2009 3:46 PM, PDT | AirlockAlpha.com | See recent Airlock Alpha news »

There are still a lot of "Battlestar Galactica" fans out there, especially in critics circles, but not everyone was a fan of the latest DVD that was released Tuesday: "The Plan." The telemovie was written by "Caprica" showrunner Jane Espenson and directed by "Battlestar Galactica" star Edward James Olmos, and provides backstory of the Cylon attack that started the critically acclaimed Syfy series through the eyes of the Cylons themselves. It starred Dean Stockwell from "Quantum Leap" fame as well as Tricia Helfer, Grace Park, Aaron Douglas and Michael Trucco. Here is a sampling of just some of the reviews for the DVD, which is available now through Universal Home Entertainment. "This 'Plan' seems built from all mortar and no bricks, despite a rich premise: revisiting the 'Galactica' »

Scott Bakula Knows As Little About A Quantum Leap Movie As You Do

28 September 2009 7:05 AM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

I wasn't aware of this, but apparently there have been rumors flying that a movie version of Quantum Leap will get going at some point, with Scott Bakula reprising his role as Beckett. Now Moviehole has gone straight to the source to find out the truth on these rumors, and as it turns out, Scott Bakula knows just as much as we do. "That rumor's always out there," Bakula told them. "It would be fun. I would always - you know, you talk about this stuff, and you'd have to see how it would manifest, you know? In terms of a script. And - I always have joked that they'll do it, but it won't be with me and Dean, you know? Because that's just the way that Hollywood is. If they did a feature, they would recast it. And make it better." So in the same way you sit »

The Informant!

The Informant!

Directed by: Steven Soderbergh

Cast: Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Melanie Lynskey, Joel McHale

Running Time: 1 hr 48 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: September 18, 2009

Plot: Based on the book by Kurt Eichenwald and true events … Mark Whitacre (Damon) chooses to side with the FBI in an investigation into agri-business (mainly corn) price fixing at Adm. Unfortunately Mark has a problem with keeping his truth straight.

Who’s It For? It’s an adult comedy. The Hangover is also an adult comedy. These are two completely different things. The comedy is of the chuckle variety in The Informant! and there’s a lot of it. And if you’re willing to watch Damon in non-Bourne movies, then get in line.

Expectations: Damon is at the top of my list for “if I could only pick one guy’s movies for the rest of my life including the ones he has already made. »

The Informant!

Directed by: Steven Soderbergh

Cast: Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Joel McHale, Melanie Lynskey

Running Time: 1 hr, 48 mins

Rating: R

Release Date: September 18, 2009

Plot: The story of conniving business man Mark Whitacre, a man whose many ulterior motives nearly bring down both his high-paying company, and the F.B.I. Though presented as a true story, the film insists there have been various entertainment-inducing liberties that were taken to present a more light-hearted depiction of the events that transpired from 1992 to 1996.

Who’s It For? Those who still aren’t convinced Matt Damon has any relative range as an actor. Soderbergh has yet to include “spoof comedy” to his illustrious directorial career, and even the greats have muffed such opportunities up. This is a film you should see if you are curious about what happens when two popular Hollywood talents put their reputations on the line, and spread their wings a bit. »

Matt Damon in The Informant!

Photo: Warner Bros. Pictures The trailers for Steven Soderbergh's The Informant! are a great example of why I do my best to avoid film marketing. While they don't necessarily spoil the film, they create an impression for a film you just don't get. Sure, there is a jaunty score and a bumbling performance by Matt Damon as the corporate whistleblower Mark Whitacre, but it's more than that... while at the same time... it's not. Let me explain... As much as I would love to place the blame solely on the marketing division at Warner Bros., I really can't. For starters, the trailers are fantastic and hopefully will get people into the theaters to watch this film over the other dogs opening this weekend. On top of that, there really isn't much of a way to sum up The Informant! in a short amount of time. »

Matt Damon is The Informant

The Fix Is In.  That is the title of episode 168 of “This American Life” where the story of Mark Whitacre was first heard by screenwriter Scott Burns and eventually made into a movie.  Such is Hollywood.  After seeing the film yesterday, I looked up the Chicago Public Radio program and listened to it this morning.  I would have appreciated hearing the episode before seeing the film for most of the same reasons that I think the second viewing of this film will be more satisfying then the first.  I didn’t get to the screening early so I sat fairly close to the front (the only seats that were available).  Behind me slumped a group of irritating kids who spoke loudly to each other and said “Matt Damon” in the Team America voice every time he came on screen.  Idiots behind me and, on screen, »

Scott Bakula Exclusive Video Interview - The Informant!

17 September 2009 7:00 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Opening tomorrow is the new Steven Soderbergh movie “The Informant!” The film is based on the true story of the highest-ranking corporate whistleblower in U.S. history and the film stars Matt Damon, Scott Bakula, Joel McHale and Melanie Lynskey. While I’d love to go into detail about the film, it’s one of those movies the less you know the better, so I’ll just say I really liked the movie and I recommend checking it out this weekend. Especially if you enjoy surprises….

Anyway, a few days ago I got to speak with Scott Bakula about playing FBI Special Agent Brian Shepard and working for Steven Soderbergh. Of course I also worked in some “Star Trek” and “Quantum Leap” questions, and I also asked him about being on “Chuck” last season and if he might be coming back. If you’re a fan of Scott’s work, »
