Hoff the Record: Was David Hasselhoff spoof doc a laugh riot?

18 June 2015 1:40 PM, PDT | Digital Spy | See recent Digital Spy - TV news news »

Dave is clearly excited about its new comedy series Hoff the Record - even rebranding as 'David' for the day in honour of the show's star, David Hasselhoff.

But did the final product live up to the hype? A spoof documentary series, Hoff the Record sees Baywatch veteran and one-time pop sensation Hasselhoff play an exaggerated version of himself, looking to renew his career prospects in the UK.

In the first episode, The Hoff worked hard for his laughs - addressing that viral video which saw him drunk and scoffing down a burger, and even proving that he's still got the goods by belting out his 1989 hit 'Looking for Freedom'.

But was the effort worth it? Did you love Hoff the Record - or did all the self-mockery fall flat? Was it a laughfest or a misfire?

Digital Spy wants your thoughts on Dave's new effort. Does it have legs? »

Society | Blu-ray Review

Arrow Video unveils one of the most impressive Blu-ray packages of 2015 with its remastered presentation of Brian Yuzna’s languished body horror classic Society. Completed in 1989, along with the writer/producer’s sophomore effort Bride of Re-Animator, his debut wouldn’t see theatrical release in the Us until 1992, several months after David Cronenberg unveiled similar monstrous sphincter designs in the celebrated Naked Lunch. Though it’s generated a loyal cult following, and was treated to a 2002 DVD release that’s long been out of print, Yuzna’s class conscious metaphor still manages to unsettle with its inspired gross-out spectacle, gifting audiences a finale every bit as memorable as Cronenberg’s early provocations.

Bill Whitney (Billy Warlock) has never felt like he quite belongs to his upper class Beverly Hills family. His parents seem to have an unnervingly close relationship with his sister (Patrice Jennings) and they don’t really seem »

David Hasselhoff is a one-off - and interviewing the Baywatch legend is a unique experience.

His new show Hoff The Record - a spoof reality series - launches on Dave on Thursday, June 18 at 9pm.

One plot considered for the show would have seen him hired as the new host of Top Gear - "We wanted to write it in - we were going to call it Hoff Gear," he revealed.

For more from The Hoff - including which Hollywood hunk he thinks has the "cool irreverent style" to play him in a biopic - hit play on the video above.

Hoff The Record has already been picked up for a second series, while Dave will also rebrand as 'David' on June 18 to mark the series launch. »
