The prisoner is granted a reduction in his sentence.
The main interest of this short from the "Sueurs Froides" miniseries lies in its cast: the two principals worked several times in Chabrol's movies : the sadly missed Marie Trintignant appeared in "Betty" and "Une Affaire De Femmes " and François Cluzet found his best part in "L'Enfer".
That said, the director (Claire Devers) cannot make up for the triteness of the plot ;the story is never clear nor convincing ,and it takes the talent of the two principals to keep interest throughout.
A good line by one of the cops :'I'd rather spend 5 years in jail for murder than to pay a life alimony"
Even Claude Chabrol's comments are not very funny here.
