Did You Know?

Melanie Griffith was battling an alcohol and cocaine addiction throughout filming. She would often go dancing until 4:30 a.m. and had to be at the set by 6. On the morning she was supposed to shoot the scene where her character reunites with Alec Baldwin at Joan Cusack's wedding, Griffith was so wasted that production had to be shut down until she could say her lines coherently and $75,000 was taken out of her paycheck to fund the reshoot. Three weeks later Griffith entered the Hazelden Foundation, a rehab center in Minnesota. See more »

It was made clear that Katherine and Jack had a long-term relationship before Tess came on the scene, and yet Jack failed to recognize Katherine's office when he went to visit Tess when she was putting on her act as a broker. Katherine has only just moved to New York from Boston. This is evidenced by what the recruiter says to Tess: 'transferring down from Boston, name of Parker', as well as the fact that Katherine does not yet have a place to live (she tells Tess on the phone from the hospital that she's staying at her parents' house and her voice on the Dictaphone makes reference to her looking for a place of her own), and says to Tess of her and Jack: 'We're living in the same city now' which implies this is a new development. It is therefore perfectly possible that, while Jack knows where Katherine works and knows that it is at the same place as Tess (and assumes that Katherine is Tess's colleague), he has never seen her office. One of my favorite comedies is sweet and funny.
7 November 1999 | by See all my reviews

How can you go wrong with this delightful comedy? Besides having a great cast headed by Melanie Griffith, there's Harrison Ford (in one of the rare romantic comedies that suits his talents), Sigourney Weaver and wonderful Joan Cusack. And Olympia Dukakis, Alec Baldwin and Kevin Spacey are in it too (don't blink)! A great musical score and Oscar winning song by Carly Simon, all directed by Mike Nichols, I give this two thumbs up, and a 10!
