Boring and phony 'drama'
lor_13 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
John Stagliano takes a stab at seriousness and flunks out with this phony peek behind the scenes of shooting porn. Casting John Leslie as the veteran porn director at work was a good idea, but a lousy script, awful (seems semi-improvised) dialogue and flat acting kills the movie.

It all hangs on a telegraphed final plot twist that is ineptly executed. (I'll spoil it at the end of this review, so beware.) What unfolds is a porn shoot with an actress dropping out, so Leslie's right-hand woman Dolores Delus scrambles to find a replacement. Meanwhile a great teen fan of Leslie played by Brandy Alexandre makes love to her husband Buddy Love, and they both decide to answer an ad and try and get her to break into the Adult biz.

So it's serendipity (or unconvincing coincidence) that Delus presents Brandy as the replacement, and Leslie reluctantly accepts. She's immediately pressed into service, watching sexy blonde Bella Donna dance for Jesse Adams and then hump him, Brandy masturbating on cue wall watching. Leslie gives her direction, unimpressed with her acting, and I agreed with him. He comments that she looks underage, but she doesn't. I was surprised to see this "Bella Donna" prominently featured over a decade before the superstar Belladonna (wholly dissimilar type) became Stagliano's most famous performer.

Sex filler was provided by Stephanie Rage (before her breast enlargement) masturbating for Leslie by the pool outside and then having a brief dramatic scene with Blake Palmer before he f*cks her. So far the movie has been completely phony, while pretending to be taking a realistic John Cassavetes approach.

Big "dramatic" scene has Leslie chatting with Brandy about the script causing her character to have trepidation about abortion, cuing Leslie to narrate a flashback about his one true love (Kathryn Gentry) who got pregnant and suddenly split on him after a tender sex scene by the fireplace in which he had given her a black ring pledging his loyalty. He's clearly upset many years later about it, 'cause he never saw her again and assumed she got an abortion, as he had suggested.

ULTIMATE SPOILER TIME: When Leslie says "I guess she got an abortion on her own", we see Brandy pull a black ring out of her handbag, and she quietly says "No she didn't". This punchline is supposed to move an audience to tears or at least shock, but Leslie doesn't see her with his ring and doesn't react to what she's said. It's just another poorly conceived and poorly executed scene by director Stagliano.

Back to the porn, the studs return with beers and Brandy announces she didn't get to have a sex scene, just dialogue content (and her masturbation) so she'd like to rehearse an orgy to be shot next day. Leslie points out that there are no other girls there, but she wants to practice on her own with the studs. Leslie leaves, and we watch a gang-bang, replete with a Peter North massive cum shot and including a story goof of having her husband Buddy Love one of the studs (he's not a porn performer, she's the one that got hired). Movie ends with Brandy covered in cum, lying alone on the floor declaring "I'll never leave you daddy".

Stagliano is also in the cast as Leslie's cameraman. He certainly aimed higher than usual, but was not up to the task of shifting from gonzo crap to serious filmmaking -easier said than done.
