Storyline

After being fired from their jobs as security guards, Josh and Ivan form Video Aces, a video production company. Using Josh's talent and Ivan's business savvy, they attempt to hit it big in the business while doing projects they want to do. Among those whose paths cross with theirs are Norman Mart, an extremely right-wing presidential candidate; Samantha Gregory, a scheming music reporter; and Mo Fuzz, a producer willing to give them a chance or three if they'll work on spec. Trivia

The band Ranchbone in this movie is portrayed by the real life ska-punk band Fishbone. Both Tim Robbins and John Cusack are big fans of the band in real life. Tim Robbins can even be seen wearing a Fishbone t-shirt in a scene in the movie Bull Durham released earlier that same year. See more »

User Reviews

A brilliant, feel-good comedy with an outstanding soundtrack.
30 November 1998 | by (Los Angeles, CA) – See all my reviews

The chemistry between Cusack and Robbins is readily apparent in this off-beat comedy. The film is full of clever, yet not-so-obvious sight-gags including the casting of Zander Schloss as both a heavy-metal fan and an R&B concert-goer.

Sam Moore and Junior Walker pair up as the fictitious band "The Swanky Modes" adding a number of very soulful tunes to the soundtrack. To quote Josh & Ivan in the movie "We love the Swanky Modes."
