There were only 18 Irish feature films made in the 1980s. DVD review.A lone wolf (Brosnan) refuses to leave his home town in Wicklow. He gets involved with the resistance to a chemical plant.Strange movie that isn't very good but is quite watchable. There's a good cast (Stanford especially), the conflict between the ordinary Irish and the business-class, actress Doody (who has only appeared in a handful of movies since), the funny way all the well-dressed rich characters are crooked, Brosnan (looking great), and loads of Irish character actors (even Twink appears as a tacky slapper wearing a mohawk and leather jacket). Like a lot of Irish movies this one is more suited to television drama than the cinema. The best scene was the final killing on the beach - like something from the far superior Get Carter. Taffin is worth a look but is difficult to get on DVD.
