Colleen's mother doesn't believe she killed herself, she believes she was murdered in a plot set up by her cocaine-dealing boyfriend, Jake Erlich (called 'Mel Erman' in this movie). Her mother believes that when Erlich went to prison and ended the relationship, he was afraid Colleen would reveal his drug connections. However, the Palm Springs police department feel certain that it was a suicide and the case remains closed.
