Storyline

Leda Beth Vincent lives in the small town of Shiloh and works as a cocktail waitress there. She is not too well thought of as she is nothing of a blushing virgin. But she is far from a whore and brings up her daughter Julie, a high school student, as a loving responsible mother. So, when she becomes aware that Julie's very popular history teacher, Mr Baker, spreads anti-Semitic, racist ideas among his pupils, Leda Beth decides to ask Mr Baker for an explanation. But she comes up against a wall. Nobody in town - Julie less than all others - wants to support her and it looks as if she will have to bring the Board of Education to court. The trouble is that a school dropout and a tramp of her kind does not count for much compared to the holders of knowledge and of morality. Written by Guy Bellinger

Trivia

Although the end credits claim that the events and characters are fictitious, the script is based on actual facts that took place in a Canadian town where a history teacher (and former mayor) had used his classes to vilify Jews and denied that Hitler had even ordered the 'Final Solution'. Parents concerned about what their children were learning mounted a successful legal battle to have the teacher fired. See more »

What the hell is with the cover?
2 June 2002 | by See all my reviews

Just finished watching this on Lifetime. Looked it up on IMDB to check out the details and couldn't believe the cover jpeg! What the hell were these marketing people thinking? I suppose anti-racism isn't catchy enough. Pathetic. Do they think we're all idiots?

Good Lifetime movie if you're into that. Vanilla plot but you get that good beats evil feeling. God am I glad I live in the city.
