Nice to see his picture here. RAMPAGE succeeds on many levels. The most authoritative level it succeeds on is the impressive nature of the shocking acting and tone of this film. The film portrays crime as the brutal beast it is, when alot of hollywood was throwing tie up and gag rape scenes in movie for cheap thrills. Having been a victim of urban terrorism and crime in a era when the vietnam war, triad film trades came home (literally and not with protesters) and black september and october marched in the great lakes this film troubles me. it troubles me on a level that it sparked a kindling a remembrance of similar deeds done to me. It also troubled me because as a vicitm of crime I have recieved no justice. This is the brutal reality of this movie. Crime justice and the long road to punishment or as leftists call it rehabilitation. The film also bothered me because the portrayal of the killer, was so realistic right up to the end. I walked out of a theatre after having seen this film and thought about it for days. A good film does this without cheap exploitation, this film excells at those attributes. A good film raises awarness on issues. Some could say this is a social conscience film, others a good crime and court drama. Yet, the film RAMPAGE does things on it's controlled nature the big 80 million dollar action epics don't. The film oddly, had distribution trouble and was not released until the 1990's. A must for people wanting emotionally probing film viewing without cheesy over acting and a soap operaish plot.
