‘Poltergeist III’ Is a Bad Movie, But Its Mirror Effects Are Still Awesome

10 April 2014 2:00 PM, PDT | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

“Carol Anne! Carol Anne! Bruce! Bruce! Patricia! Patricia! Carol Anne! Bruce!” One of the funniest episodes of Siskel & Ebert features their dialogue-mocking review of Poltergeist III, which is one of my all-time biggest guilty pleasures. I love the way Gene chimes in when Roger says he hopes the residents of the John Hancock Center got free tickets (“I hope they didn’t.”). It’s a silly take on a ridiculous movie, the second sequel to what I believe to be one of the greatest horror films ever made. My esteem for the first Poltergeist is not why I’ve always had a soft spot for Poltergeist III. I hated Poltergeist II: The Other Side as a kid, yet I latched onto the next installment with immense fascination and fear. Partly it was the state-of-the-art skyscraper setting, which my 11-year-old self believed to be an inspired choice (the 13-year-old me would go on to accept Gremlins 2: The New Batch as »

This Toddler Has Some Seriously Cute Jedi Skills (Video)

27 March 2014 12:00 PM, PDT | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

With the help of some clever special effects (courtesy of one awesome dad), this wee one has discovered the way of the Jedi.

The adorable video from Action Movie Kid features a toddler wielding a plastic lightsaber, when suddenly, "Zwooom Zhvrooom," the lightsaber is carving up the aisle. Jj Abrams, sign this kid up for "Star Wars: Episode VII."

Update: Turns out the industrious dad behind the video above has plenty more of them up his sleeve, and they're just as adorably clever. Although, the one with the kid disappearing in the puddle is a bit on the creepy side, in a "Poltergeist III" kind of way.

This Week in The Vault: Rebekah McKendry and Dave Parker Chat About 'Dead & Buried'

6 February 2014 10:30 AM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

In The Vault this week, we welcome director Dave Parker (The Hills Run Red, ColdWater) and journalist Rebekah McKendry from Fangoria. These are two of the biggest horror nerds I know (and I know a lot of horror nerds) so they give some great insight on this week's film, Dead & Buried.

Dead & Buried is a kind of low-key zombie flick. I had never even heard of it until we started working on The Vault. The small New England coastal town of Potter's Bluff is a popular vacation spot, but visitors frequently end up, well, murdered. But thanks to some voodoo witchcraft, the dead rise again, as residents who don't eat brains and, frankly, act as if nothing happened - except, of course, when it is time to kill the newbies.

Directed by Gary Sherman (Poltergeist III, Raw Meat), the screenplay comes from Dan O'Bannon, best known for writing the original Alien. »

*Updated* Bad Dreams and Visiting Hours Blu-ray Release Details

6 January 2014 3:00 PM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

*Updated* Back in 2011, Shout! Factory released 80′s horror cult movies, Bad Dreams and Visiting Hours, in a 2-disc DVD set. Thanks to Scream Factory’s recent success, both titles will be getting a Blu-ray upgrade next year:

via Scream Factory: “Some of you may be aware that Shout Factory released this double feature already on DVD only in 2011 as a “Killer Double Feature”. All the extras from that release will be ported over including new extras that are in the works for Visiting Hours (which had only TV spots and a still gallery at the time.). No firm details to report on them at this time. Artwork is not final but expect it to look close to what’s presented here.”

Bad Dreams: “In the mid-1970s the members of the love cult Unity Fields sought “the ultimate joining” by dousing themselves with gasoline and committing mass suicide. A »
