Revenge! Y&R! Arrested Development! Behind The Candelabra! The TV Addict Week in Rewind

Most Likely to Win Everything: After record breaking ratings and rave reviews, you can bet that Behind The Candelabra stars Michael Douglas and Matt Damon will very soon be trading in their Candelabras for a handful of Emmy and Golden Globes.

Most Fitting Tribute: The Young & The Restless gathered the real-life friends, co-workers and family of the late Jeanne Cooper (Katherine) for a tear-soaked remembrance of the soap’s legendary star.

Oddest Living Arrangements: Matthew Perry turned his former Malibu residence into a sober-living home in which men can transition from rehab to the real world. Sounds like a reality series just waiting to be picked up!

Biggest Backlash: Almost immediately after Netflix released new episodes of Arrested Development, critics began picking it apart. Apparently, absence didn’t make everyone’s heart grow fonder. In related news, 95 percent of the country continued to remain as oblivious to the show’s

'Iron Man 3' Clip: So This Is Why Tony Stark's House Gets Blown Up (Video)

'Iron Man 3' Clip: So This Is Why Tony Stark's House Gets Blown Up (Video)
A new "Iron Man 3" clip has hit the web, featuring Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) giving archnemesis the Mandarin (Ben Kingsley) his Malibu mansion's address. Anybody who has seen the explosive trailers for the latest Marvel release will immediately realize what a terrible idea that would be. ABC Ratings Race: Last Man Standing & Malibu Country Make Happy Endings & Don't Trust the B Look Worse

Once the final ratings for Friday's editions of Last Man Standing and Malibu Country were figured in, the sitcoms dropped down the averages list but they're still doing much better than Happy Endings and Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23. That's really bad when you consider Last Man and Malibu air on Friday nights, an evening when viewership is lower. It looks certain that Don't Trust the B will be cancelled.

ABC's Sunday night line-up -- America's Funniest Home Videos, Once Upon a Time, Revenge and 666 Park Avenue -- all had a bad night but those numbers didn't affect the show averages very much. Of course, 666 Park Avenue is still in terrible shape and is still headed for cancellation. At this point, Last Resort has a better chance at survival but both are very likely doomed.

What do you think? Are

TV on Tap: Kal Penn to Host Discovery's "Big Brain Theory," "Fairly Legal" Is Cancelled and Is the Door Finally Open to "Muppet Babies"?

Lets hope Malibu Country turns out to be a show worthy of Lily Tomlin.

News

Kal Penn will host a competition series on Discovery, The Big Brain Theory, that will focus on engineering challenges. I have to admit, I'm intrigued by the concept.

A day after it made the cancellation of Common Law official, USA announced that it cancelled Fairly Legal. Since the gay character stopped appearing by the second season, I gave up trying to endure it.

Revolution and Supernatural creator Eric Kripke says that the reason why the power went out is at least somewhat scientifically possible and repeated that we won't have to wait very long to get some answers.

HBO has ordered eight episodes of Hello Ladies, the comedy from Ricky Gervais' frequent collaborator Stephen Merchant.

Here's what you'll be doing on election night.

In a surprising development, Hell on Wheels has lost its showrunner

Twitter hashtags and handles for fall TV shows
Below are the official Twitter hashtags and handles for the fall broadcast entertainment TV shows, as well as a few major cable dramas. As anybody who tweets about TV knows, finding the exact hash & handle for each since program can be confusing since they don’t always match the show’s title (for instance, Parks and Recreation is #ParksandRec and @parksandrecnbc, while Hawaii Five-0 is #H50 and @HawaiiFive0CBS). So if you want to join the conversation this fall, bookmark this page (and feel free to tweet it too). @james_hibberd

Weekend Meme: Rupert Everett Keeps Talking, George Takei Heads To "The New Normal" and Conan O'Brien Impresses Jake Gyllenhaal

It's finally obvious why Rupert Everett made those horrible comments about gay parents – he has a new book to sell. Still, in some ways I empathize with some of the reasons he's putting forth on kids and marriage. "For me, being gay was about wanting to do the opposite of the straight world, so I think that's where my problems in this particular area come from. For me, personally, the last thing I would like in the entire world would be to go through cocktailing my sperm with my boyfriend and finding some grim couple in Ohio who are gluten-free and who you pay $75,000 to have your baby. To me it feels absolutely hideous. But that's me, just me. I'm not having a go at gay couples who do. I think if Elton and David want to have babies, that's wonderful. I think we should all do what we want.

AfterElton's New Fall TV Guide

Fall is a hopeful time for TV viewers. Every new show is an unknown, save for a handful of promos and publicity photos and we're waiting to find out if the show lives up to the promise of a great idea or... withers away to inspire case studies of failure analysis.

There are few obvious trends this year. The New Normal and Partners both feature a gay couple among its lead characters while Arrow and 666 Park Avenue try to capture the Occupy Wall Street zeitgeist that helped make Revenge a hit. But overall, this fall lacks the "me too" quality that so often characterizes a TV season.

The one trend that does stand out this season are strong ideas that don't quite meet their potential in the pilot. Vegas, Last Resort, 666 Park Avenue and The Mindy Project are some of the pilots that left critics hoping that later episodes fix the rough spots.

New TV Season Breakdown: ABC

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the third one announced. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on ABC.

An odd year for the once mighty juggernaut which can still pack 'em in. It had surprise success stories with "Once Upon a Time" and "Revenge", the latter becoming an unexpected international hit, and several shows have gotten renewals despite more modest numbers. Still, with it battling with NBC for the third and fourth position overall, the network has to introduce ten shows over the course of the season in the hope of getting a few stickers.

Several other pilots didn't make the final cut and won't be seen include the fashion label dynasty soap "Americana", ABC's update of the 90's "Beauty and the Beast" TV series, the Roland Emmerich-produced thriller "Dark Horse", the

ABC's New Schedule: 'Revenge' Heads To 'Desperate' Slot & More

ABC's New Schedule: 'Revenge' Heads To 'Desperate' Slot & More
ABC is shaking things up for its 2012-2013 schedule.

"Revenge" is heading over to Sunday nights at 9 p.m. Et, the slot the now dead "Desperate Housewives" occupied up until last week. Old standby "Grey's Anatomy" is staying put, as is "Scandal," but they're paired with newcomer "Last Resort."

In a press conference call right after the schedule announcement, ABC Entertainment President nm2712251 autoPaul Lee[/link] said he's not concerned about launching a big action show at 8 p.m. -- especially not "Last Resort," from "The Shield" creator Shawn Ryan.

"I have so much faith in Shawn. You get a sense in this job of the showrunners who really know how to drive the train. Don't forget -- we've opened strong action shows at that hour, and certainly there's an audience for it. We believe strongly in the strength of this show. We think it's a big, broad tent show, we believe in it,

Garrett Greer: What Could Be Coming To ABC This Fall
Every year, the five major broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC) order pilots to be considered for the fall season. A pilot, as you may know, is the first episode of a TV series and the final step in a long development process from idea to screen.

From the 87 drama and comedy pilots ordered this year, a new crop of television shows will be selected -- and I read the scripts for each and every one of them. Over the course of this week, I'll walk you through the network's pilot slates, offer a bit of analysis on their present schedules and provide you with a rundown of the drama contenders. (Plus, a little bit of info about the comedies, too.) Of course, not all of these shows will find their way to your TV set -- in fact, most of them you may never hear of again.

ABC fall development 2012: Out to please soap fans?

ABC fall development 2012: Out to please soap fans?
Like Revenge on ABC? Well you may get a lot more of it.

The lion’s share of the net’s drama pilots in development for fall offer sudsy tales in the vein of the Hamptons-based drama that’s currently tearing up the screen on Wednesdays. (To wit: The drama, which is averaging 8.7 million viewers, leads its hour against old dramas on CBS and NBC among adults 18-34 and key female demos. It’s also the net’s most-watched series in the hour in more than four years, since Lost in 2006-07).

Female-skewing serials fit in best for the home

Bye From TCA: Max Greenfield, Christina Ricci, and the Cast of "Happy Endings"

The Bataan Death March … With Chocolate

Another Television Critics Association Summer Tour is over and this was probably the most memorable one I’ve ever done, for a whole host of reasons.

Another critic once described the press tour (which usually lasts for two solid weeks with no breaks at all) as the Bataan Death March With Cocktails. Since I’m not much of a drinker that isn’t true for me. Instead, for me it’s a death march with chocolate since the cable and broadcast networks were constantly tempting us with all kinds of chocolates, from marshmallows covered with dark chocolate to chocolate covered strawberries to all kinds of fancy fou-fou chocolate desserts.

ABC even sent a box of amazing chocolate chip cookies to my room where they begged me to eat them! Talk about evil.

As I said, this TCA was very memorable. The day I arrived in Los Angeles,

Charlie Sheen Is Getting A Funeral On Two And A Half Men

Get ready, because Two And A Half Men is about to get even less funny. The sitcom’s long awaited return to the airwaves in September will feature a funeral for Charlie Sheen’s character. Considering the acrimonious split between Sheen and the production, we bet that the scenes will probably serve as a giant middle finger pointed defiantly at the one with tiger blood coursing through his veins. Revenge is best served cold as a corpse, and at prime time.

We’re also getting an insight as to how Ashton Kutcher arrives at Casa Del Charlie. After the funeral, Jon Cryer puts the Malibu mansion up for sale, and various celebrity guest stars show up for a viewing. Ashton is apparently the lucky buyer, ushering in a whole new era of hijinks. We have no idea why Ashton agrees to take the place with one and a half men

Entirely Too Much Attention To Detail: The True Love Edition

  • Pajiba
The aim here is not to nitpick or criticize. It is simply to indulge in affectionate thought experiments and tangents related to movies that I have enjoyed over the years. What are the unspoken motivations, the unexplored avenues, and the seemingly insignificant details that lie between the frames? Oh, and if you have not seen the movies I write about in this column, you are a little behind the times, but I offer a spoiler warning regardless.

The Princess Bride

This is a perfect movie. I would not dare to suggest changing a single moment of it. Nevertheless, there is one detail in the story that has always bothered me. I hope you do not deem it sacrilegious, but I wanted Inigo Montoya to win that duel with Westley.

Perhaps "wanting" Inigo to win is not that unsurprising and even a common viewer impulse. At that point in the story,
