Goofy sequel to The Haunted Copshop.

Warning: Spoilers
This is another one of those nonsensical comedies from Hong Kong, but with a horror theme. Here, in this sequel to The Haunted Copshop, the Hong Kong Police Station is plagued with vampires and police officials fear there are more out in the city. Thus, the Superintendent recruit several police officers to join his "Ghostbusters" unit, where they are sent to a military base for training. While the new recruits undergo training, veteran "Ghostbuster" unit member Man-Chill (Ricky Hui) stumbles upon two coffins in a remote area within the base, the hideout of two fierce, female vampires.

Like its prequel, the movie is full of slapstick and goofy humor, and you need to be a true fan of nonsensical stuff in order to appreciate this stuff. However, the nonsensical content is somewhat scarce and there are several cool vampire horror and jump-out-at-you moments in the movie; all the vampires in the movie were executed pretty well and the scenes of them chasing our good guys around were entertaining to watch. Unlike its prequel, this movie does have more vampire and ghost action, but they are sometimes overshadowed by the goofy comic relief.

You will get a few scares and some good humor, but some of the ***spoiler ahead*** tragic human events and hero sacrifice inserted in the movie toward the end spoils the climax and fun for me. ***spoiler ends***

Overall, it's an OK Hong Kong horror-comedy. Not one of the best, but is worth a watch at least once.

Manic sequel

Warning: Spoilers
THE HAUNTED COP SHOP II is the quick follow-up to the first movie that seems cheaper but somehow more manic and action-packed than before. There's not a lot of sense but there's plenty of spooky hijinks and endless scenes of the main cast members getting chased around by vampires and zombies. Somehow it's never wearying or repetitive, just fast and funny throughout.

Things kick off right at the start with a vampire takeover at a police station, with the previous film's stars Jacky Cheung, Ricky Hui and Woo Fung reprising their roles. The latter then sets up a vampire cleanup squad of eccentric characters (inevitably Billy Lau is one of them) and it's a running battle from then. The effects are cheap but the humour is constant and mostly effective, and the extended climax works a treat.

There should be a law against films this bad.

The first Haunted Cop Shop movie was guilty of being desperately unfunny, and this follow-up proves those responsible to be repeat offenders: if anything, Part 2 is even worse than the original. They should lock up the cast and crew and throw away the key.

The plot (if you can call it that) sees a special unit of police ghost-busters formed to deal with the all the ghosts/vampires that have been plaguing the city. While at a training camp, the recruits have to deal with several bloodsuckers and some zombies, but still find time to act like total imbeciles.

I did wonder whether some of the humour was 'lost in translation', but then again, I couldn't see how the gang acting like farm animals to induce a hen to lay eggs could ever be funny. Other 'hilarious' scenes include wacky cop Man-Chill (Ricky Hui) keeping a female vampire from biting him by jiggling her tits, and a police chief repeatedly coming a cropper when jinxed policewoman Bad Luck (Sandy Lam) is in his office. Oh, how I didn't laugh!

2/10.
