During a scene where Johnny (Anthony Michael Hall) is drumming, you can clearly see a Charles Chaplin poster. Robert Downey Jr., who plays Leo Wiggins, played Chaplin in Chaplin (1992).
Robert Downey Sr. plays NCAA investigator Floyd Gondolli. That was the same name used by Philip Baker Hall in Boogie Nights (1997), in which Downey Sr. also appeared

In the opening credit sequence Johnny asks a cheerleader, "Will you take off your panties and stand over there?". She replies, "Anything for you". When you slow the movie down, you can see she is wearing nude-color underwear.
