Of course the movie doesn't exactly add too much new aspects to the slasher genre - but with all the surprising and unconventional camera angles, with the surprisingly high tension, and with the notable film makers and/or actors who give smaller or bigger cameos (Sam Raimi, his brother Ted, Bruce Campbell, Lawrence Bender and director Scott Spiegel himself), this little gem truly delivers and is everything but boring. The story is developed carefully an there are many scenes with tongue-in-cheek-humor. The murder scenes are extremely gory (but only in the uncut version: the US R-rated, UK BBFC 18 and German FSK 18 versions are all heavily trimmed) and superbly made by Kurtzman, Nicotero & Berger EFX Group (as far as I know, it was their first collaboration as a team and they were not yet labeled as KNB EFX Group). An outstanding example of a really thrilling slasher movie - and my personal favorite.
