Jodie Foster is adding a new trophy to her collection - a lifetime-achievement honor at the Golden Globes.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced Thursday that Foster will receive the group's Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 70th annual Globes ceremony on January 13.
Foster, 49, is a two-time Globes and Academy Award winner. She was honoured with leading actress trophies at both ceremonies for 1991's The Silence of the Lambs and 1988's The Accused, which she won in a three-way tie at the Globes with Sigourney Weaver for Gorillas in the Mist and Shirley MacLaine for Madame Sousatzka. »

One of the first things we see in "Chasing Mavericks," a mostly uninspiring surfing drama starring Gerard Butler, his lumpy face framed by strands of willowy wet hair, are the words "Based on a True Story." But the true story behind the scenes of "Chasing Mavericks" is almost as compelling as what made it onto the screen – Butler was hospitalized in a surfing stunt gone wrong (one that left the star nearly dead according to some reports) and the film's original director, "L.A. Confidential" helmer Curtis Hanson, had to leave the project following heart surgery ("Gorillas in the Mist" director Michael Apted was called in to finish the film; the two filmmakers share credit, in an atypical DGA decision). The fact that you can't see the Frankenstein stitches used to sew the film together is a testament to the cleverness of the editorial team, but it also speaks volumes »

Sigourney Weaver a six-foot-tall cinematic empress with three Academy Award nominations and a host of classic film credits under her belt. Better yet, everyone can agree upon her immense gifts as an actress. If you don't care for sci-fi, you can skip her Ridley Scott works and adore her comic turns. If Melanie Griffith's addiction to shoulder pads isn't your thing, you can skip move right along to Sigourney's starring roles in '90s thrillers. She's been in everything, she can do everything, and now on her 63rd birthday, let's count down what she's done best. Here are her 10 fierecest moments.
10. Sigourney scorches Indonesia in The Year of Living Dangerously
In the grand scheme of exotic Oscar-winning '80s cinema, The Year of Living Dangerously is an under-discussed gem. Though tiny supporting actress Linda Hunt steals the show as male dwarf photographer Billy Kwan, Sigourney is an absolute vision throughout the movie. »
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the idea for the film came from Hardy, who was inspired by friends who served as operatives in the Special Forces and later went on to become anti-poaching activists in South Africa and other nations.
The "Dark Knight Rises" star has reportedly teamed up with DiCaprio and Maguire to produce the animal trafficking film for Warner Bros., no word yet on whether the three actors will also star in the film, but we'd be even more interested in the project if so. DiCaprio and Maguire are childhood friends who we'll finally get to see onscreen together in next summer's literary epic "The Great Gatsby," and Hardy and DiCaprio became friends from their time together filming "Inception."

Now, we wrote about how this was a fucking good idea a long-ass time ago. Not only have we been excited about it in our forums, but we actually made a list a while back. The impetus for that list was a statement Sigourney Weaver made about how it sucks that she's too old to play Ripley in another action Aliens film. We were pissed that Old Dudes get to keep making action films, but Weaver didn't think she could just because she's a chick.
Let's update our wish list. Because all the dudes in The Expendables films are Old Mother Fuckers, I demand that the female cast be Old Bitches. None of this "Zoe Saldana" or "Milla Jovovich" bullshit other sites keep talking about. Seriously. Can »
The makers of a new miniseries, including one of the year's most impressive television casts, have America's political parties to thank for it coming together so fast.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti ("Brothers & Sisters") admits this being an election year was a huge factor in his rapid development -- and USA Network's quick purchase -- of "Political Animals," which begins a weekly run Sunday, July 15. The drama boasts a rare home-screen appearance by Sigourney Weaver as a maritally troubled former first lady and failed presidential candidate who becomes secretary of state.
If that sounds somewhat familiar, let it be noted the character is fictional, indicated by her demand for a divorce from her ex-president husband (Ciaran Hinds) early in the premiere episode. However, his charisma and connections keep him useful to her in matters of international diplomacy ... again, fiction in this case.
The secretary also has a problem in a »
“What can you really know? What can you really trust? What are your doubts? What are your certainties? What do you call truth? When you look at the sky, what do you see? Shadows? Reflections? Distant echoes? You see the moon as it was more than a second ago. You see the sun as it was shining eight minutes ago. But what do you really see? Can you trust your eyes? Can you trust me?” – Simon Silver in Red Lights

Usually I have a specific reason for picking each week's candidate for "Best Movie Ever" -- say, if Jane Fonda goes back to work or summer is approaching -- but with 1988's Working Girl, it's just a matter of necessity. It has to be considered for Best Movie Ever because 1) I can watch it again and again, 2) It doesn't mind being ridiculous, and 3) It spends most of its time being right. Plus, this Mike Nichols jam is a beaming strobe light of '80s ferocity, and not just because Joan Cusack's teal eyeshadow and Sigourney Weaver's vermilion blazer will char your retinas. This movie is a celebration of self-respect, floor-length leather jackets, and drive. Let's count up its greatest assets and see if it comes out looking better than Citizen Kane.
1. Melanie Griffith is so, so right for this role. Or so, so wrong!

For a night known as Hollywood's most notorious open-bar gala, the Golden Globes ceremony remains shrouded in mystery. Most viewers probably don't even know who presents it (the Hollywood Foreign Press Association), how many voting members it has (only about 90), or what qualifies them to pass judgment on movies and television (they're Hollywood-based journalists -- some part-time, some full-time -- who write about film and TV for various overseas outlets).
Yet movie fans and awards mavens continue to take the Globes seriously as a precursor to the Academy Awards, since some of the Globe honorees will indeed go on to win Oscars. Others simply enjoy the Globes ceremony as one helluva wingding, where alcohol-fueled stars really loosen up in public. Either way, the Globes have a colorful history of glamour, scandal, and (occasionally) recognition of some of Hollywood's best work. With that legacy poised to continue when a cheeky Ricky Gervais »
