May. It's a Wrap

16 hours ago | FilmExperience | See recent FilmExperience news »

For reasons beyond my control, May was a tremendously difficult month and the least active in The Film Experience's long history of daily postings. But it wasn't without highlights. If you've been drifting away, [cue Keira's chokey Atonement voice] "come back..." because June will be hopping.

Ten Highlights from the Month...

Cast out your inner monster!

Annette Bening as Myra Langtry Still on the Grift

Tilda, Candied still the most peerlessly iconoclastic actress

Thoughts I Had... while staring at Tom Cruise's W Cover

The Exorcist and Nothingness Beau's fascinating guest post

Maleficent Now with more... Mike Leigh?

Tennis in the Movies - a top ten list

Raise the Red Lantern - my favorite installment of this month's "Best Shots"

Smash - that "bombshell" finale

Most Eyeballs: The Avengers Reviewed.

Most Discussed: "Goodbye Dad." Thanks for all your support out there in the dark.

Coming In June: Witches of Eastwick week for its 25th anniversary, »

Supporting Actors: The Overlooked and Underrated (part 3 of 5)

24 May 2012 8:28 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Nicol Williamson as Merlin in Excalibur (John Boorman, 1981, UK):

Turning in by far the best acting in Boorman’s epic, Williamson sets the bar for all other interpretations of the Merlin character. Best known as an acclaimed stage actor with a history of incredibly unprofessional behavior, this is Williamson’s most memorable film role and will have you chanting the “charm of making” in no time.

Rutger Hauer as Roy Batty in Blade Runner (Ridley Scott, 1982, USA):

As an android seeking to prolong his short life, Hauer’s unique screen presence is perfectly utilized in director Scott’s atmospheric science fiction milestone. Hauer brings a sort of “alien” quality to the character Roy Batty and really makes this role a truly superior piece of casting.

Other notable Rutger Hauer performances: Nighthawks (Bruce Malmuth, 1981, USA), The Hitcher (Robert Harmon, 1986, USA).

Robert Pattinson Stops Magazine From Publishing His 'Naked Nipple Licking' Pictures

15 May 2012 9:13 PM, PDT | Celebrity Mania | See recent Celebrity Mania news »

Though Robert Pattinson is no stranger in doing on-screen sex for his movies, the actor reportedly freaked out after having a very steamy photo shoot for French Premiere magazine. Rumor has it, the British heartthrob had asked the magazine to ban his "naked nipple licking" photos from being published.

An insider told RadarOnline, "Toward the end of the shot the photographer instructed the model to lick Rob's nipples!" The source added, "That was the kiss of death, Rob called cut and went in his dressing room and made a phone call. But, he did come back a few minutes later to finish off the photo session, so everyone thought it was all good."

After doing the intense shot, however, Rob seemingly worried that those images would be spread. The source stated that a few days after the racy photo session, the magazine received a phone call from Rob's camp, who »

Robert Pattinson Poses In David Cronenberg Homage Shoot

14 May 2012 1:06 AM, PDT | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Robert Pattinson has paid homage to David Cronenberg by recreating scenes from the filmmaker's early movies for an edgy new photoshoot.

The Twilight star, who worked with the director on new drama Cosmopolis, took part in a 13-hour shoot with photographer Eliot Lee Hazel to revisit Cronenberg's films.

In one creepy photo, the Brit can be seen lying shirtless on a couch with a hole in his stomach - a reference to Cronenberg's Videodrome, in which the protagonist inserts video tapes into the slit.

The spread, for France's Premiere magazine, also features a snap depicting Pattinson in bed with a pregnant woman and a clone of himself, which echoes Cronenberg's Dead Ringers.

In an accompanying interview, the hunk, who turned 26 years old on Sunday, explains how working with the Canadian gave him a new feeling of confidence.

He says, "Filming Cosmopolis with David Cronenberg changed something in me. It gave me b**ls.

"Before, I spent my time doubting myself. As soon as I read a script I liked, I was working myself up, asking myself if I was good enough. Now, I tell myself, 'F*** it! If they want to hire you, go!'" »

R.Pattz Gets Cronenbergian For Freaky Photo Shoot

10 May 2012 5:13 PM, PDT | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Okay, can we start campaigning for Robert Pattinson to star in remakes of every single David Cronenberg movie ever made?

It seems like everyone involved in "Cosmopolis" is claiming it's a return to weirdo form for Cronenberg, who has recently played it relatively safe with mannered character dramas like "A Dangerous Method" and "Eastern Promises." This latest promotional photo shoot (conceived by R.Pattz himself) seems to push that point even further as it features Cronenberg's latest leading man recreating scenes from a handful of the director's cult favorites, including "Dead Ringers," "Videodrome" and "Scanners."

We must say, Pattinson has earned a whole new level of street cred by appearing in pics with a gaping wound on his chest and a crazy James Woods kind of look on his face. A shame there wasn't any attempt at recreating "The Fly," though — R.Pattz in gross-out mutant makeup (and perhaps even »

Robert Pattinson Worships the New Flesh

10 May 2012 3:02 PM, PDT | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

David Cronenberg's latest, Cosmopolis, looks to be a return to his older, outre cinematic style. It stars Robert Pattinson, who is working hard at shedding Edward Cullen by undertaking a completely different vapid persona. Check out some nifty promotional pics that feature the actor riffing on a few of the director's past works.

The French version of Premiere (as translated by Cosmopolis Movie - the dedicated fansite for the film) indicates it was Pattinson's idea to pay homage to such Cronenbergian classics as Videodrome, Scanners and Dead Ringers. We've got some of these below, but be sure to head on over to Cosmopolis Movie for more.

Beyond that, you can also dig on the film's theatrical poster and trailer below. Cosmopolis is due to hit at some point in 2012 and is based on Don DeLillo's novel about a young billionaire's bizarre odyssey across NYC and his encounters with several unsavory characters. »

Robert Pattinson Gets Weird in David Cronenberg Inspired Photos

10 May 2012 2:03 PM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

For years I've been quite the proponent of Robert Pattinson's acting career outside of The Twilight Saga, and mark my words, when all is said and done, we'll have a solid young actor on our hands, and even the teen girls won't like the movies he's going to start making. That's how it looks with David Cronenberg's stylish thriller Cosmopolis and forthcoming flicks like Mission: Blacklist. Keeping up with his artistic roots and darker Cronenberg style interests, Pattinson recently did a strange photoshoot for Premiere in France (via Movies.com) paying tribute to earlier films like Videodrome, Scanners and Dead Ringers. Look! Here are some of the photos from Premiere's spead and you can see the rest at Cosmopolisfilm.com: In a rough translation from the magazine, Premiere says Pattinson was very hands-on with the 13-hour photoshoot and even though these photos being so strange and twisted are »

Robert Pattinson Does Videodrome (And Other Cronenberg Films)

10 May 2012 8:52 AM, PDT | shocktillyoudrop.com | See recent shocktillyoudrop news »

The Twilight saga's Robert Pattinson is starring in the new David Cronenberg film Cosmopolis and, in a new Premiere photo spread (from France), the actor "starred" recreated a few moments from Cronenberg's oeuvre, including Videodrome, Scanners and Dead Ringers.

From Premiere France:  "To say that he got involved in the making of the photoshoot is an euphemism. The first images of Scanners and Videodrome we prepared for him as an inspiration for the future snapshots came back to us with an unexpected commentary: Rob was sorry that they weren’t more daring, wanting to push all the limits with this shoot – the complete opposite of what someone in his position would have asked. Two days later, the photograph Eliot Lee Hazel and his crew – sort of strange for this kind of shoot (a special effect makeup artist, a pregnant lady …) – met in a gloomy hotel in downtown L.A. to »

Robert Pattinson Freaks Us Out With David Cronenberg Homage, Talk Of “Balls”

10 May 2012 7:48 AM, PDT | TheFabLife - Movies | See recent TheFabLife - Movies news »

According to translations of the French Premiere magazine, it was Robert Pattinson’s idea to do a photo shoot re-creating scenes from David Cronenberg’s films to honor his Cosmopolis director. And by “honor,” we mean remind us how truly freaky films like Videodrome (which inspired the photo above) are, and how freaky Cosmopolis promises to be. The accompanying article includes this prize RPattz quote (via Us Weekly): “Filming Cosmopolis with David changed something in me. … It gave me balls.”

Pattinson also talked to the mag about how he’s changed since filming the first Twilight. “Yes. I’m really different from who I was at the beginning of the saga. I got older. … When I’m going in the makeup trailer, I can see all these wrinkles that appeared since then. It’s really frightening. I got fatter as well. Robert Pattinson Steps Into Scenes From David Cronenberg's 'Videodrome,' 'Dead Ringers' & 'Scanners' For Photo Shoot

10 May 2012 7:23 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Just yesterday we were saying that magazines doing photo shoots based on movie scenes is becoming a pretty regular thing, and why not? The movies have provided some of the most iconic imagery of all time, so why not riff on that for spreads in glossy mags? Well, Robert Pattinson is the latest to jump into the pool, with a set of pics dedicated to the work of his latest collaborator, David Cronenberg.

The "Cosmopolis" star came up with the idea for Premiere France (via Movies), wanting to do something way more daring than just pouting at the camera. The result was a thirteen-hour session in Los Angeles where Pattinson was the center of snaps that pay homage to a range of Cronenberg's most celebrated films, including "Videodrome," "Dead Ringers" and "Scanners." And yeah, appearing in a magazine with a deep, festering wound in your torso is pretty damn daring, »

Full Trailer for David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis!

Based on Don DeLillo's novel, Cosmopolis is 'a day in the life of Eric Packer, a 28-year-old New York stock market multi-millionaire, as he crosses Manhattan in his customized limousine to go for a haircut. His cross-town journey becomes an almost vertical voyage, with bizarre occurrences and an authentic parade of crazy characters along the way, in a landscape that depicts the modern soul of the West at the end of the millennium'. Cosmopolis is written and directed by David Cronenberg (The Fly, Dead Ringers, A History Of Violence), and stars Robert Pattinson, Juliette Binoche, Paul Giamatti and Mathieu Amalric. Another Cool Robert Pattinson/Cosmopolis Trailer

Robert Pattinson as Eric Packer, Cosmopolis Robert Pattinson's multibillionaire Eric Packer doesn't go on and on about wanting a haircut in this new Cosmopolis trailer — yes, another new Cosmopolis trailer. (Please scroll down.) This a more philosophical trailer, with cosmic statements such as "I smell sex all over you." Pattinson's reaction to that is priceless. And are they watching snuff films (minus the sex) at one point? [Check out another Cosmopolis trailer.] Now, this latest Cosmopolis trailer also offers a better look at the various supporting actors in the film. The English Patient / Hidden's Juliette Binoche looks particularly impressive. Cronenberg co-wrote the Cosmopolis screenplay with Don DeLillo, the author of the novel on which the film is based. Awesome Cosmopolis Trailer: Robert Pattinson/David Cronenberg

18 April 2012 11:53 PM, PDT | Alt Film Guide | See recent Alt Film Guide news »

Robert Pattinson in Cosmopolis "I wanna a haircut," says Robert Pattinson's multibillionaire Eric Packer — sounding like a petulant, spoiled brat with too much power and all-too-mundane needs — at the beginning of the newly released Cosmopolis trailer. (Please scroll down.) But mere human power has its limits. What will Packer become when there's "no more money" and "no more sex" and "no more power"? What would any of us become, especially if we can't get the haircut we want? [Check out another Cosmopolis trailer.] As expected, considering that this is a David Cronenberg movie, the Cosmopolis trailer looks great, Pattinson looks and sounds flawless in the role of the billionaire whose universe is about to be radically rearranged, and the (audible) dialogue sounds as weird as what one gets to hear in real life, e.g., "The logical extension of business is murder" or, again, "I wanna a haircut." Catching Fire Director: Francis Lawrence, Bennett Miller?

Jennifer Lawrence, The Hunger Games Forget "arty" filmmakers such as Alfonso Cuarón, Alejandro González Iñárritu, and David Cronenberg. Lionsgate is now eyeing Moneyball / Capote's Bennett Miller and I Am Legend / Constantine's Francis Lawrence to helm Catching Fire, the sequel to Gary Ross' The Hunger Games. According to several reports, Lawrence is the apparent front-runner. Although he doesn't have anything like The Fly or Scanners or Dead Ringers on his resume, the Austrian-born Lawrence does have at least one key Cronenberg connection: Robert Pattinson, the star of Lawrence's circus drama Water for Elephants and of Cronenberg's upcoming comedy / drama / thriller / who-knows-what-else Cosmopolis. Bennett Miller, for his part, has a connection to González Iñárritu: Brad Pitt, the star of both Moneyball and Babel. Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth star in The Hunger Games and will return for Catching Fire, based on Suzanne Collins' bestselling novel. Slumdog Millionaire »
