Get Ready To Stream Pee-Wee's Next Adventure On Netflix

23 December 2014 7:50 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Netflix, the streaming service that has made something of a habit of giving fan-favorite properties a second (or third) life, is at it again. The company that gave Arrested Development a fourth season, and brought The Killing back from the dead, is now set to bring an all-new Pee-Wee movie to a TV near you.

According to The Wrap, Judd Apatow has brought his Pee-Wee production to Netflix. Paul Reubens. the creator of the character, who has also co-written the script for the new film, is set to return to the iconic role. This will be the latest leg of Pee-Wee's comeback tour, so to speak. Starting with a surprise re-appearance on SNL in 2011, Reubens has been hard at work resuscitating the character. These efforts include a run on Broadway with a live show that then culminated in an HBO Special.

As of now, we do not know much else about the project. »

Pee-Wee Herman Heads For Netflix

23 December 2014 12:54 AM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

The recent trend of movie and TV projects forgoing traditional channels and heading straight for streaming platforms continues this morning with the news that Pee-Wee Herman's comeback movie will debut on Netflix. In the works since at least 2010, Pee-Wee's third big adventure will be produced by Judd Apatow. Not much is yet known about the film, but last we heard it was taking a road movie format, with Pee-Wee's alter-ego Paul Reubens working on the screenplay with Paul Rust.Should you be unaware, Herman was big news in the Us in the 1980s, with the Saturday morning show Pee Wee's Playhouse running on CBS from 1986 until 1990. It was mad. Laurence Fishburn was in it. Tim Burton's Pee Wee's Big Adventure (and its non-Burton sequel Big Top Pee-Wee) followed, but then there was the unfortunate incident in the disreputable Florida movie theatre, and suddenly Reubens was no longer a children's entertainer. »

Today’s secret word is: comeback!

A new Pee-wee Herman movie is moving to Netflix for distribution, with Paul Reubens set to star and Judd Apatow slated to produce. The film was previously set up at Universal.

Pee-wee’s new adventure will begin shooting in 2015, with no director announced yet. Plot specifics have not been revealed for the script written by Reubens and Paul Rust.

Netflix currently offers “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure,” “Big Top Pee-wee” and “The Pee-wee Herman Show,” and “Pee-wee’s Playhouse: Vol. 1″ and “Pee-wee’s Playhouse: Vol. 2″ were added earlier this month.

Rumors of Reubens’ return to the bigscreen in his Herman persona have been circulating for years, fueled by his revival of the character for live shows in 2010 and his 2011 run on Broadway. He also appeared as the character in a 2011 “Saturday Night Live” sketch.

Reubens is repped by Wme. Apatow is repped by UTA.

If a deal is finalized soon, production may begin as early as February.

The producer revealed in March that Paul Reubens has written the script alongside Paul Rust. Just two months ago, Paul Reubens stated that a "big announcement" was coming in the very near future, with production set to start early in the new year. »

This is a film that's been discussed for some time now with Reubens discussing the project way back in 2011 with the Hollywood Reporter saying: Paul Rust ("Arrested Development") and I just turned in a draft to Judd last week. He's bringing such an interesting side to it. He's constantly having us talk about and address the emotional core of Pee-wee Herman. It's adding a dimension I never had before. Judd, if you're reading this, I think it's ready to green light! The last full-fledged Pee-Wee movie was 1988's Big Top Pee-wee, which »

'Pee-wee Herman' Movie Announcement Is Coming Soon

"There's going to be a big announcement any minute now. Yes. It's been months and months of being right on the verge of being announced. I thought something was going to go public yesterday, actually, and that you'd be the first person I'd be talking about this with. But I'm thinking there will be something made public very soon. It's going to get made shortly after the new year. I wish I could tell you about it right now, because... I mean, it's amazing. It's going to be amazing. It think it first got leaked four years ago or so that the movie was going to be made, and ever since then it's just been stalling and stalling. So I'm really ready for this to happen. »

New Pee-wee Herman Movie is “Imminent” According to Paul Reubens

21 October 2014 2:39 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

As long as this is closer to Pee Wee's Big Adventure and a decided departure from 1988's ill fated Big Top Pee-Wee I think we'll be in fairly decent shape.  Paul Reubens is claiming that an official announcement regarding a new Pee-Wee Herman movie is almost incredibly f*cking nigh.  This is excellent news considering the fact that it's been well over two years since our last update on the project.  Given the fact that Reubens sounded optimistic then (though not quite this optimistic), let's hope there's a bit more going on than last time around. There's no word on if Judd Apatow is still involved or if they are using any of the script that he worked on, but I'm hoping there's a strong steward aboard either way because I don't want my Pee-Wee ship sailing rudderless.  Hit the jump for more on the new Pee-Wee Herman movie.  Reubens »

Remember Taneleer Tivan, The Collector? That David Bowie-looking guy who appeared at the end of Thor: The Dark World and made a similarly fleeting appearance in this week’s crazy sci-fi blockbuster Guardians Of The Galaxy? Well, beneath the eccentricities, the mincing and the hairpiece of the latest addition to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was multiple award winning, Puerto Rican character actor Benicio del Toro, in his first big screen role since…well, we’ll get to that soon enough. It’s a bit of a funny turn for a man with an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a BAFTA Award to his name – for the same movie, no less – and it got us to thinking how he’d gotten here.

Born to a couple of lawyers, with an older brother who went into the medical profession, del Toro was something of »
