Netflix is becoming the premiere destination for a number of upcoming comedy movies including Adam Sandler's Ridiculous 6 and the long-awaited Pee-wee's Big Holiday, both of which will only be available exclusively on the streaming service. While Ridiculous 6 has yet to go before cameras, Pee-wee's Big Holiday just finished it's first week of filming. Creator and star Paul Reubens has shared some new photos from the set, as he shows off Mr. Herman's slick new ride. And Pee-wee himself had this to say about his first week back in front of the camera for his first big movie since 1988's Big Top Pee-wee:
"Days 1 - 5 are complete! I hitchhiked, got a few rides, then drove all over the place in my cool car. Spent the night in a haunted motel! Even did a movie stunt. Then my stuntman did it way better!"
Shooting officially began last week on Pee-wee's Big Holiday. »
The title of the long-gestating third Pee-Wee Herman film has been unveiled as Pee-wee’s Big Holiday.
The new movie, to be streamed on Netflix, sees Pee-Wee become “inspired to take his first ever holiday after a fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger”. Story-wise, the Judd Apatow production should feature manchild Herman’s brand of warped eccentricity, famous to fans of the character’s output. Tim Burton’s Pee-wee’s Big Adventure (1985) saw a road trip including a deceased trucker named Large Marge, and the underrated Big Top Pee-wee (1988) had a circus blow into the hero’s farm during a storm.
Created by controversial actor/comedian Paul Reubens some 35 years ago, Pee-Wee also ran kids TV show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse that had Laurence Fishburne among the cast. He was resurrected by Reubens (now in his sixties) in 2010, and after some time trying to get something cinematic off the ground the »

Netflix continues to make forays into the world of original feature films. With Adam Sandler securing a four-picture deal with the company, the next (and far more auspicious step) that the streaming and DVD service has taken is into the world of Pee-Wee Herman. It was announced earlier today that Paul Reubens’ new Pee-Wee film, Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday, will be released worldwide on Netflix.
The Judd Apatow-produced Pee-Wee film has been a long time coming: it was originally set up over at Universal, but has since migrated to Netflix, who already streams the original TV show Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, as well as both feature films, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure and Big Top Pee-Wee. Adding another Pee-Wee film to its roster makes perfect sense, and probably will give the cult fanbase a much bigger chance at seeing it.
Paul Reubens himself sounds quite excited about the Netflix deal, saying »

Reubens co-penned the film with Paul Rust, a story editor on Netflix's season four restart of "Arrested Development." Here's the official synopsis, with production set to begin in March 2015: "A fateful meeting with a mysterious stranger inspires Pee-wee Herman to take his first-ever holiday in this epic story of friendship and destiny."
