Interview: Producer Gale Anne Hurd on How Syfy’s ‘Hunters’ Makes Aliens Scary Again

8 April 2016 7:00 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Gale Anne Hurd has made movies about aliens. In fact, one of the greatest of all time, the sequel Aliens. She also produced one of my personal favorites, Alien Nation. So the news that Gale Anne Hurd is back in the alien game should mean a lot. She is producing the new show Hunters on Syfy. Hunters […]

Martin Carr reviews the seventeenth episode of Supergirl

There are echoes of Alien Nation and Predator in this week’s episode, which effectively employs flashback to fill in back story for everyone. Unlike other shows the technique is employed correctly to broaden and deepen our bond with these characters, while showing the true nature of others. Following on from his reveal as a Martian shapeshifter, Supergirl subtlety addresses issues of victimisation first broached in ‘Human For a Day’. Giving everyone their moment in the sun through interrogation flashbacks, whilst keeping it interesting »

Just last week, we heard about a cool new project that would reunite Will Smith and Joel Edgerton with David Ayer, their Suicide Squad director. Titled Bright, it's based on an original screenplay by Max Landis (American Ultra, Victor Frankenstein) that was described as "a contemporary cop thriller, but with fantastical elements." Now we're hearing via The Hollywood Reporter that Netflix is in negotiations to acquire and produce the package. If everything works out, it would be the biggest movie deal yet for the streaming service. More details about the story have also been revealed. Reportedly, Bright is described as a "mixing of End of Watch, Ayer’s own 2012 gritty cop movie, and Alien Nation, the 1988 sci-fi thriller that starred James...

10 March 2016 7:16 AM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Netflix is still relatively new to film distribution, but they’re already making a lot of noise. After scooping up what feels like half of this year’s Sundance lineup, the company has set its sights on David Ayer‘s Bright, starring Will Smith and Joel Edgerton. Described as a mash-up of Alien Nation and Ayer’s own End of Watch, the cop […]
