Cult Classic ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ Marathon Coming to Twitch

24 June 2017 2:15 PM, PDT | Tubefilter.com | See recent Tubefilter News news »

Mystery Science Theater 3000 is landing on Twitch and staying there for six days. The marathon will air on Shout! Factory TV’s new Twitch channel starting June 26 at 11am Pt.

Consisting of 38 episodes that first aired on Comedy Central and later the Sci-Fi Channel, the Mystery Science Theater 3000 marathon will take viewers through about a fifth of the show’s total episodes, which ran for 10 seasons from 1989 to 1997. The show follows a man kept by mad scientists on a space satellite where he has to watch barely watchable, usually (very) low budget films as part of the scientists’ evil plot. The protagonist, played at first by the show’s creator Joel Hodgson, creates robots to keep him company and make witty commentary as they watch B movie after B movie together.

The show is coming to Twitch in part because it reflects what people do on the social streaming platform already. »

Seth Rogen Gets ‘Inception’-ed, Carrie Coon Loves the Public Theater — The Week in Showrunner Tweets

18 June 2017 5:00 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

One fascinating aspect of today’s media landscape is that many creators and executive producers enjoy using Twitter to engage with their audiences, share behind-the-scenes information about their shows, chat about politics, and otherwise communicate about what matters to them. So, each week, we’ll compile some of our favorite exchanges representing the wide variety of discourse seen on social media.

Last Week’S Tweets: Who ‘Mr. Robot’ Is Really Attacking, And R.I.P. ‘The Get Down

This week: Bryan Fuller watches “Twin Peaks,” and showrunners love “The Handmaid’s Tale.”

We Would Watch The Crap Out of This

Think big, Hollywood, and listen to Shonda Rhimes’ casting suggestion here.

Obvious: only actor who could play Comey and do him justice?

"Lordy, I hope there are tapes," says Denzel Washington. Bam. Academy Award.

Emmy Predictions 2017: Outstanding Variety Sketch Series

16 June 2017 8:20 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Last Year’s Winner: “Key & Peele

Still Eligible: No.

Hot Streak: This is only the third year of the category’s existence, but “Saturday Night Live” has been nominated in either Variety Sketch or the category’s previous, all-encompassing iteration, Variety Series, every year since 2008.

Fun Fact: “Saturday Night Live” has not won in either category since 1993.

Eighteen shows enter, six emerge. One-third of the variety sketch series on the 2017 Emmy ballot will make their way into the race, meaning many of the candidates can already taste victory…which also means the competition is going to be fierce.

The safest bets include “Saturday Night Live,” which is riding a hot streak and a hot season into the 2017 race; “Portlandia,” which has scored nods in two consecutive years and is generally beloved by the Academy; and “Drunk History,” a surprise inclusion when the sketch series category was first created that cemented »

Here’s Why Jean-Claude Van Damme Didn’t Appear In Predator

14 June 2017 11:30 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If you’re anything like me and are a fan of film trivia, then you love to ponder and discuss what could have been throughout the annals of cinema. So, if you’re of that ilk, you’re well aware that in some parallel dimension none other than Jean-Claude Van Damme was cast as the Predator and gave Arnold Schwarzenegger a run for his stogie back in the 1980’s.

But, as fate would have it, we never saw this cut, something director John McTiernan recently touched on when speaking with Cinema Blend:

“We never shot anything with him. It was a complete screw up with his agent, trying to hustle him into a job and didn’t know what the movie was. It’s silly. It was really silly.”

It’s hard to entirely extrapolate the context of that, but it could be assumed that Jcvd’s agent thought something »

Alien: Covenant Movie Review – To “Ridley Scott” Will Soon Enter Common Usage

30 May 2017 12:26 PM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

It’s been five years since Prometheus, and while the bonkers Exodus: Gods and Kings and The Counsellor didn’t offer a lot of hope that Ridley Scott was going to improve on the sad and boring road he’d taken the Aliens universe down, The Martian did manage to ignite a spark of hope. Unfortunately, it seems The Martian had enough source material behind it, and owes its positives far more to Andy Weir, Drew Goddard, and Matt Damon.

Alien: Covenant manages to redouble all the misguided efforts of Prometheus, and worse still, is even more convinced that audiences are both brain dead and have never seen any other films.

We kick off with the hapless crew of the colony ship Covenant, who are en route to a well-researched planet where they plan to offload some 2,000 colonists to start a new life. The familiar android Walter (Michael Fassbender) patrols the ship, »

Crypt of Curiosities: Something Fishy – A Look at “Gillsploitation” Films

12 May 2017 12:32 PM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Every horror fan has their favorite type of monster. Some people love shambling zombies, others prefer squid-faced aliens from beyond the stars, and I’m sure there are a few people out there who would swear that The Mangler is the greatest beast to grace the silver screen. But for me, one archetype has always reigned supreme: the scaly fish-man.

I can’t explain why, but ever since I was a kid, sea life has always interested me, so it should come as no surprise that as far as famous monsters go, the Gill-man’s always been my favorite. Unfortunately, being a fan of the Gill-man can lead to some issues. Unlike Dracula, Frankenstein, and The Mummy, the Gill-man was an original creation of Universal, and as such, was not in the public domain. So, while there are many great films bearing those iconic names, the Creature from the Black Lagoon only has three, »
