Storyline

Bill Gillespie is a police chief in a small town in the American South, and later becomes sheriff of the county. As Bill tries to solve crimes and catch criminals, aided by his capable investigator Virgil Tibbs and police lieutenant Bubba Skinner, he must navigate tricky small-town politics. Racial tensions often run high in the South and this theme is frequently explored. Bill's personal life is often portrayed in this TV drama, as well. Quotes

Virgil Tibbs: Ever since that woman came to town, Bubba
[sigh]
Virgil Tibbs: ... I think he's in over his head. She's a beautiful, sophisticated young woman and Bubba, well...
Althea Tibbs: You can't understand what she sees in him.
Virgil Tibbs: In a word, No.
Althea Tibbs: Let me try to explain this to you Virgil. Bubba is a HUNK. He's manly, he's strong, he's considerate and just rippling with muscles.
Virgil Tibbs: Althea, Althea, you're a married woman.
Althea Tibbs: Hey I'm married, I'm not blind.
Virgil Tibbs: Well, if Bubba's a hunk, what does that make me?

One of my favorite all time shows
2 February 2005 | by See all my reviews

I found that the series was very realistic, and in some cases very funny. The characters seem real, and the plots are interesting. The cast that was chosen could not have been better. That acting was done well, and it was very sincere. Especially, when the show got into the heart of difficult issues. This might sound a bit silly, but the show meant a lot to me, because it was one of the last shows that was true to what it was, and one of the best series that has ever been produced in my mind. The one thing that I would really like to know, if someone somewhere is trying to come up with a DVD collection of the series. I know that I would probably be first in line. It is a show that I enjoyed, and miss watching a great deal.
