Karen Shepard didn't want her character to die in her fight against Cynthia Rothrock as was planned, claiming it would be harmful to her career. To appease her, Corey Yuen pretended to film her running away after the fight, but later filmed her death via a stunt double.
Cynthia Rothrock was originally supposed to act in Jackie Chan's Armour of God, but due to Chan's injuries halting production of the movie, Rothrock was re-assigned to play as the lead actress in this film.
Whilst filming a transitioning shot of his character falling from a plane, the wire supporting Biao Yuen snapped and he landed face-first upon the mattress padding with his lower body bent over top of him, prompting crew members to fear he had broken his spine. Biao, who was unharmed, claims it was the most dangerous escapade of his entire film career.
In the final plane scene, that is really Yuen Biao hanging from the rope 4,000 feet in the air. He had also trained for, and had wanted to do, the jump from the plane but due to New Zealand restrictions and insurance reasons was not allowed to and a professional parachutist was used.
Karen Sheperd recalls being in perpetual pain during filming, due to the rigor of her action scenes. Sheperd claims to have utilized acupuncture and the services of an herbalist every night to recover for the following day.
The trivia item below may give away important plot points.
Originally, the pre-release cut ended with both Cynthia Rothrock and Biao Yuen's characters dying at the end: Rothrock stabbed in the neck by a screwdriver and Yuen falling to his death from a plane. The ending was not well received by the preview audience and the ending was re-shot so both the characters survived plus an additional coda was added to show that revenge is futile.
