Not all bad

THE BIG BROTHER is an oddball little comedy from Golden Harvest, a bit of a struggle to sit through at times. I got by thanks in part to being a big fan of Alex Man, who is cast against type here as the glasses-wearing romantic lead, and Simon Yam, younger than usual but playing a familiar role. The first half of this romcom is a typical Hong Kong situational comedy set in an apartment or two; the humour doesn't really work all that well and feels like something that might have been rejected from a LUCKY STARS sequel. The second half becomes more of an action comedy with some fun fights and a satisfying climax, so it's not all bad.
