Storyline

In Hong Kong, Ho Chen-tung is the aging Mob boss, living by a code of honor, keeping peace among rival factions. For years, he has been estranged from his son, Hui, who lives in Australia. Tung has become a sort of father to Han, a Vietnamese refugee who also lives by an ethical code. At the same time that Hui reaches out to his father, the Hong Kong CID conclude their years'-long effort to get the goods on Tung and his associates. Tung expects the younger gangsters to live by the code he loves, but at his trial, he has a surprise coming to him. It may be up to Han to restore the balance. Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>

Trivia

The film was made while actor, Chow Yun Fat, was still recognized as a Hong Kong television star, therefore he only appeared in a supporting role. However, on the Tai Seng DVD re-release, he can be seen on the cover with star billing, based on his commercial success since the film's original release date. See more »

Trading off Chow Yun Fat's fame.
21 August 2007 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

At least this wasn't as bad as the Denzel Washington ripoff, License to Kill. Still, it was deceptive advertising as Chow Yun Fat was still a TV star at the time of this movie and had only a very minor part. However, the DVD has him prominently displayed on the cover, just like they did with Washingto.

Lots of chop socky as an aging Triad leader (O Chun-Hung) tries to rehabilitate himself in retirement and a policeman (Dick Wei) is determined to put him away for his past crimes.

Director Billy Chan is no John Woo, so don't expect much other than a little fork and hibachi action.
