Kay Lenz goes undercover and undressed in a strip club to catch a murderer
10 February 2015 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Kay Lenz puts in a solid performance as an undercover cop working in a strip club called "Rock Bottom" in an effort to find out who has killed a stripper. The detective part of the story is handled too loosely to generate any real suspense or tension. There is constant intercutting of lengthy dance routines by the girls. This takes up about half the movie. These are really quite good routines. The dancing takes center stage, really over any stripping, well beyond the old days of burlesque in dancing talent on display. The girls are athletic, trained in dance, good-looking and well-choreographed. The music is a variety of rock. Norman Fell, the old pro, is the club owner. A good portion of the movie is backstage repartee and provides some background on the girls, who are treated sympathetically. The seedy club atmosphere is captured nicely. The film that I saw was on the fuzzy side. The concluding sequence is quite violent. It is just a shame that the script that revolved around the detective work was on the lame side. There were simply too many go-nowhere scenes of Lenz in conflict with her partner, Greg Evigan. There were not enough suspects or clues to make this a decent mystery. It leaned more to the slasher side in places. Technically, it's a neo-noir and listed as such in at least one book on the subject. Actually, it's weak on that score, although not non-existent. The real heart of this picture is the dance routines and Kay Lenz. Story has potential but script is very weak.
