Miss Mary Morston seeks Sherlock Holmes' assistance in resolving the strange disappearance of her father some 10 years ago and the fact that for several years she has on the anniversary of his disappearance received a beautiful, flawless pearl. She also has an old map of sorts with her father's and three other names written at the bottom. She has also has received a letter from a Mr. Thaddeus Sholto inviting her - and two friends if she wished - to visit him as he had news about her father. Holmes and Watson accompany her and learn that Mr. Sholto's and Miss Marston's father both served in India and had supposedly secreted a vast treasure. They decamp to his brother's house, where the treasure is believed to be hidden, only to find that Bartholomew Sholto has been murdered.—garykmcd
