'The Wolf of Wall Street': 10 Things We Learned About the Scorsese-dicaprio Movie

17 December 2013 7:00 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

Is there a better way to spend a frosty Sunday morning than breathing the rarified air of both Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio? Nay, we say! Moviefone hustled to a swank hotel in Manhattan for "The Wolf of Wall Street" press conference, with Scorsese, DiCaprio, Kyle Chandler, writer Terence Winter, and producers Riza Aziz, Emma Tillinger Koskoff, and Joey McFarland in attendance to discuss their crazy tale of real life greed and debauchery. Here's what we learned.

1. It Was All Leo's idea, But It Wasn't Easy

Surprise! Not everything comes easily to Leonardo DiCaprio -- even a juicy project like this.

"About six years ago, I picked up this novel by Jordan Belfort, which was a fascinating read simply because I felt like it was really a reflection of -- his biography was a reflection of everything that's wrong in today's society. This hedonistic lifestyle, this time period in Wall »

The Alamo Drafthouse 100 Essential Favorite Films

13 December 2013 1:15 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

The programmers at the Alamo Drafthouse have compiled a list of their 100 favorite movies and beginning in January they'll be launching the Alamo 100 in all of their theaters with seven titles that capture the spirit of the list, with many more screening throughout the year. The list was compiled by R.J. Laforce, Tommy Swenson, Tim League, Joe Ziemba, Greg MacLennan and Sarah Pitre with information on each title, why it's on the list and which one of the names above selected it for their list available right here. Personally, I love this and am actually in the middle of developing something very similar for this very site, a way of writing about films that aren't necessarily the best ever, but my favorites. I actually hoped to have the new section ready this month, but I just couldn't get it finished. For now, however, check out the Alamo 100 and leave your thoughts in the comments. »

Our Holiday Favorites: 'A Christmas Story'

10 December 2013 11:30 AM, PST | Slackerwood | See recent Slackerwood news »

Welcome to Holiday Favorites, a series in which Slackerwood contributors and our friends talk about the movies we watch during the holiday season, holiday-related or otherwise

I suspect that when most folks are asked what movie is most firmly ingrained in their lives, many would list The Princess Bride, The Godfather or even Scarface. For me it's my holiday favorite that I can watch the year round -- A Christmas Story. I never asked Santa for an official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle like Ralphie (Peter Billingsley), but I did want a pink bunny suit -- even if it would mean that I would look like a "deranged Easter Bunny" in the words of Old Man Parker (Darren McGavin).

One of my little idiosyncrasies is throwing movie quotes into everyday conversation, and this film adaptation of the satirical recollection by late humorist and radio personality »

Six Of The Best – The Directors: Rob Reiner

9 December 2013 4:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

It feels like a really long time since Rob Reiner has directed a solid-gold classic, but his back catalogue is as strong as that of most any director you might mention. It could be argued that his best work and therefore his best years are behind him (indeed that could be argued for any number of directors who are currently on cruise control rather than stretching themselves), but he is still working and so might yet “do a Scorsese” and find his way back to former glory after a period in the wilderness.

As the ensuing list ably demonstrates, Reiner has covered a lot of ground, with comedy, romance, thriller and drama all finding space in the upper echelons of his resumé. What is also noteworthy is that a good number of his films are amongst the very finest of their type across the whole of film. There are perhaps »

With extensive seasons on the Sound Of Cinema and World Music in recent months, BBC4 remains the go-to channel for genre hoppers. And if that doesn't sate your 12-bar lust, the BBC4 website has a dedicated Blues Collection, including vintage editions of Arena and episodes from landmark 1979 series The Devil's Music. Hot Mess Alert! Julianne Hough Makes Messy Look Sexy in All Black

4 December 2013 5:00 PM, PST | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

For the first time in Fashion Police history, we're turning the Hot Mess premise on it's head. Julianne Hough looks like she couldn't care less about this outfit, and we absolutely love it. Typically, we'd call anything this baggy and confused a total disaster. The Paradise star is dressed like a cross between a biker chick and a coven member, with something that reminds us of The Princess Bride thrown in on her lace up top. She also appears to be wearing zero makeup and is potentially barefoot! And yet somehow the forces of this odd outfit combined give off a relaxed, sexy vibe. It's like Julianne rolled out of bed and onto this red carpet, and that's not just because she's rocking the »
