Returning from a hunting trip in the forest, the Henderson family's car hits an animal in the road. At first they fear it was a man, but when they examine the "body" they find it's a "bigfoot". They think it's dead so they decide to take it home (there could be some money in this..). As you guessed, "it" isn't dead. Far from being the ferocious monster they fear "Harry" to be, he's a friendly giant. In their attempts to keep Harry a secret, the Henderson's have to hide him from the authorities and a man, who has made it his goal in life, to catch a "bigfoot". Written by Rob Hartill

Did You Know?

In one scene, John Lithgow's character complains to his wife, portrayed by Melinda Dillon, that as a boy when he asked for artist's paints for Christmas that his dad gave him a BB gun. This is clearly a send off to 1983's A Christmas Story (1983), where the lead character Ralphie's quest was to receive a BB gun for Christmas. Melinda Dillon played Ralphie's mom. Though there is no proof of this and its just coincidence. See more »

When George aims his rifle at Harry through the upstairs window and looks down the scope, the image of Harry is clear. With the target that close, the image would not have appeared that clear and sharp but would have been heavily blurred. See more »

Jacques LaFleur: Listen, you don't understand. I almost had him! I was THAT close.
Dr. Wallace Wrightwood: Then what? Gun jam? Or maybe a change of heart? Had him in your sights and couldn't do it? What's the story this time?
Jacques LaFleur: I don't know. I think he was hit by a car.
Dr. Wallace Wrightwood: Well, that should have made it easy.
Jacques LaFleur: Yes, I know. There were no traces. No tracks. Nothing, he just... vanished.
Dr. Wallace Wrightwood: Well, like I tell my customers, Bigfoot eat their dead.
Jacques LaFleur: I don't know why the hell I bother with you.
Dr. Wallace Wrightwood: Because you figure I'm the only one who wants to believe ...

A great feel good family movie!
17 February 2005 | by See all my reviews

WE happened to catch this movie again on the PAX channel and start getting completely captivated once again by its funny scenes, and Harrys reaction to everything he encounters, from the family to the things in the house and its eventual feel good conclusion! I think one of the most touching scenes is when he encounters a deer head mounted on the wall and knocks out a hole in the wall to look for the hind part of the deer.......makes one wonder why people like to hunt in the first place, especially seeing it from Harry's perspective.......well, sit back and enjoy the movie, you will be glad you did, and have a kid or two with you..........OK? shar from oHIo........
