Mildly entertaining cheese

Sometimes bad movies can actually be good. But it takes a special kind of bad movie to fall under the category of "so-bad-it's-good." It has to be so silly, so amateurish, so rotten that it's actually comical, and not intentionally. A lot of Horror movies fall under this category, mostly shoestring budget films that few to no people saw when they first came out. 'Troll 2' is widely considered to be the king of great bad movies and boy is it ever hilariously awful stuff. The 1980s gave us many films like this that are a critic's worst nightmare, but campy fun for the rest of us.

Pros: A few of the actors actually do OK. Fabulous score with a memorable main theme. Moves at a good pace, especially once things really kick into gear. Has plenty of cheesy goodness, including some hilarious overacting. A few good and bloody murders. Some nice Southern California scenery.

Cons: Some really amateurish acting. Flat, pedestrian direction. Poorly written, which includes terrible dialogue. Some obvious padding. Has aged badly. Laughable visual effects. Paper thin plot. Too many underdeveloped characters.

Final thoughts: An experience you won't soon forget. Whether or not that's a good thing is up to the individual. This is most certainly not great or even good filmmaking here, but if you have a love of low budget trashy Horror from the 80s then this is up your alley. There are better ones you can find, but this one has enough goodies to be fun. Great Halloween viewing as well.

My rating: 2.5/5
