Zombieland Was Supposed to Have Patrick Swayze Instead of Bill Murray

28 August 2016 4:13 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Despite passing away from cancer at the young age of 57, 80s icon Patrick Swayze kept acting up until the time of his death, appearing in a handful of movies and starring in the A&E drama The Beast. His untimely demise came in 2009, the same year Zombieland stormed theaters. And as it turns out, Patrick Swayze was actually supposed to play himself in that movie. This, unfortunately, didn't came to pass.

As Zombieland fans know, it was Bill Murray that would go onto assume the role of himself, playing a heightened version of his Hollywood persona. The cameo remained a secret, even weeks after the movie came out, and many sight the former SNL and Ghostbusters star's presence in the movie as one of the highlights. In this horror action comedy, Woody Harrelson's Tallahassee and his survivor friends played by Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin decided to »

U.K.’s Secret Cinema Draws Audiences With Immersive Events for Classic Films

29 July 2016 9:45 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Theater owners have bemoaned declining audience numbers for years. So it might be a surprise to learn of one exhibitor that packs them in despite showing old movies and charging upward of $85 a ticket.

Secret Cinema has been putting on films in London since 2007. The latest, 1987’s “Dirty Dancing,” wrapped July 24 after six days of sold-out screenings that raked in $2.5 million. The company offers an “immersive,” interactive experience, with sophisticated sets, actors, and staged events. Audience members are encouraged to wear costumes.

For “Dirty Dancing,” 30,000 attendees descended on an East London park that had been converted into a fictional Catskills resort. Decked out in ’60s attire, they indulged in outdoor games and laughed at cheesy stage acts for hours before the film finally lit up the huge outdoor screen.

Some of Secret Cinema’s previous productions have been even more ambitious. Its 2014 “Back to the Future” extravaganza re-created a ’50s-era American town. »

Have Secret Cinema just revealed their next two big productions?

28 July 2016 12:17 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Next Secret Cinema production could be a musical spectacular (spectacular) and a Spielberg classic.

The next Secret Cinema gigs could have been revealed in a series of mysterious social media posts.

Over the last couple of weeks, we’ve been covering the latest Secret Cinema event here on The Hollywood News. That project was the superb Dirty Dancing where the organisers turned an East London park into the Kellerman’s resort from the famous movie. It was nothing short of awesome to be honest, and the 30,000 attendees sent the film hurtling into the top ten for the first time in 29 years. You can check out some images from the event here, and our review of proceedings over here.

As ever when one production closes, thoughts immediately turn to which movie they will concentrate their efforts on next, and we may just have figured out what they may be plotting. Over »

Check out some images & video from Secret Cinema’s Dirty Dancing spectacular

26 July 2016 5:12 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

A week ago we were lucky enough to visit Secret Cinema’s fantastic Dirty Dancing event in East London – quite simply one of the best nights of our lives. We were a little limited in what we could tell you about the event as we didn’t want to spoil it for others. Well, not that the event has ended we can reveal some images and an awesome drone video from the event to give you an idea of its scale. It was, quite simply… amazing.

An event that had us dancing from the moment that we entered the Leyton Jubilee Park which was dressed up as Kellerman’s, the fictional holiday camp from the 1987 movie Dirty Dancing. We danced, we took part in art classes, carried watermelons naughtily into the staff quarters when we weren’t meant to, drank summer cocktails and eventually watched a movie.

Secret Cinema: Dirty Dancing review – the UK's biggest hen party

25 July 2016 4:44 AM, PDT | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Re-enactments of the film’s big scenes enable a hyped-up, hula-hooping crowd in a sing-along with the atmosphere of a drunken sleepover

“When I say Dance, you say Ing, dancING, dancING!” honks a pigtailed rep through a megaphone, wearing boxfresh Keds, a burgundy Kellerman’s T-shirt and apostrophes for eyes, at the entrance to a familiar looking time warp. “The talent contest will be at 6.45pm!” The crowd, dressed head to toe in 1963, cheerfully whoop and expectantly scan the commotion of fancy dress and forced fun. This is Secret Cinema, after all, where the first rule isn’t don’t talk about Secret Cinema; it’s get involved or go home.

For summer, the blockbustering site-specific behemoth has recreated randy coming-of-age classic Dirty Dancing. As usual, at a secret London location, there are interactive re-enactments and festivalesque frippery foreshadowing the film itself, elevating it from “outdoor screening in a field »
