There is a curious, almost parental response to seeing former child stars become adults – especially when so few manage to do so unscathed
When it comes to sudden bursts of sobbing, I tend to cry mostly where I’m meant to: a sad commercial about a lonely pensioner; anything to do with baby animals in crisis; the entire back catalogue of Joni Mitchell.
So it was a surprise when I felt tears stinging my eyes as I watched Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough take on the rumba – complete with “that lift” from Dirty Dancing – on the Us Dancing With the Stars. What was I, a grown woman without the slightest interest in the Irwin dynasty or celebrity dance contests (I’m more of a So You Think You Can Dance type), with a well-developed distaste for anything Society of the Spectacle-esque, doing frantically scouring the net each week for the »

Bindi Irwin’s “Dancing With the Stars” contract has hit a roadblock. According to documents obtained by TheWrap, Los Angeles Judge Maren Nelson has declared that Bindi, a 17-year-old minor, must provide a release from both parents in order to officially enter into the contract with the dance competition series. The problem, of course, is that Bindi’s father, Steve, famously died in 2006 while shooting a segment for his hit wildlife documentary series “The Crocodile Hunter.” Also Read: 'Dancing With the Stars' Contestants Recreate Classic Moves from 'Dirty Dancing,' 'Grease' It’s unclear if Nelson didn »

In today’s modern age everyone wants everything at their fingertips, and they want it when they want it, not when some corporate entity tells them when they can have it. Take the rise of the streaming services Netflix and Spotify; two companies that have revolutionised the way in which we consume film, television and music. Right now, I can listen to pretty much any track by any artist on the computer in which I type this, or the mobile phone that is resting on the desk next to it. I can switch on my television set, and binge-watch an entire season of my favourite TV show, or watch a variety of fairly recent movies. It’s amazing. I can also use the TV to catch up on the latest soap, or watch a chat show that was broadcast last Friday evening when I was down the pub with my mates? »

Did Bindi Irwin solidify her frontrunner status on "Famous Dances" night on "Dancing With the Stars"? One week after Alexa PenaVega posted the season's first perfect score (40 out of 40), Irwin did the same with her "Dirty Dancing"-inspired rumba with pro partner Derek Hough. Bindi Irwin and Derek Hough accomplished the near impossible with their Dirty Dancing number on Dancing With the Stars Monday. The pair received perfect 10s across the board from judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Julianne Hough, Bruno Tonioli and guest judge Olivia Newton-John when they nailed the iconic lift. But it almost didn't go off without a hitch. "You can't over practice it because you just like gas yourself out, you know. We're out here, we're doing it, and we were getting it up there, but the dress kept slipping, so we were just extra nervous," Derek explained. Wardrobe malfunction alert! So what did they do? Right before they went on stage, Derek said he had wardrobe sew Bindi's dress to her »
Just about every performer on Monday’s episode of Dancing With the Stars had mighty big shoes to fill.
Andy Grammer had to perfect dance steps first made famous by Gene Kelly. Bindi Irwin had to master that lift from Dirty Dancing. Heck, even DWTS alumna Leah Remini had to take Erin Andrews’ place as this week’s sideline reporter — and boy, did she make Alexa PenaVega angry.
All things considered, though, the remaining competitors on Dancing’s 21st season rose to the occasion as they re-imagined famous dances in pop culture history, from John Travolta’s Saturday Night Fever »

Nearly 30 years after "Dirty Dancing" hit theaters, its star, Jennifer Grey, says she still gets asked to do the famous lift she performed with Patrick Swayze. Unfortunately for fans, that's never gonna happen.
In an interview with The Guardian, Grey discussed her most iconic role, and while she acknowledged the cultural significance of the flick -- "[W]e're so lucky to have worked on material with brilliant people and created characters with lasting value," she told the paper -- she said that she doesn't dwell in the past. When asked whether she's done the lift since, the actress was blunt in her response.
"God, no!" Grey replied. "I only did it on the day I shot it. Never rehearsed it, never done it since. I don't know how all these people who re-enact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze. It's insane! »

Though frequently aligned, a film's quality and its rewatchability are hardly synonymous. There are plenty of great films that one only catches a few times in one's life, and others that get slipped onto the disc or media streaming player quite regularly. The same goes for bad films - some you'd never touch again, yet others you keep coming back to because there's something compelling about them.
Earlier this week, FiveThirtyEight decided to explore this question in an effort to figure out the most rewatchable movies of all-time. Using a SurveyMonkey Audience poll, they asked people to list the five films they consider the most rewatchable. With over 1,100 respondents voting in the results they got back were not unexpected:
The Lord of the Rings Trilogy
The Godfather Films

Have you practiced the Dirty Dancing lift for your eventual wedding day? Oh, just us then? The last scene of the cult classic 1987 flick is definitely the most memorable and has been replicated more times than we can count (seriously, our calculator is broken). But now we're learning something brand new: Jennifer Grey told The Guardian that the dance, including the lift, wasn't even rehearsed. "God, no! I only did it on the day I shot it," Grey said. "Never rehearsed it, never done it since. I don't know how all these people who re-enact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze. It's insane!" That is seriously »
Because baby says so! Jennifer Grey pulled off one of the most famous scenes in movie history when she rocked a pink dress and performed for guests at the Catskill Mountains resort. But throwing back to the summer of 1963 now is out of the question. In a recent interview, the actress said that she will never do her classic Dirty Dancing lift again in this lifetime. "God, no! I only did it on the day I shot it. Never rehearsed it, never done it since," Grey, [...] »
If you haven't attempted that iconic Dirty Dancing lift yourself, you've at least watched countless celebrities re-enact it for your viewing pleasure.
However, one who won't be attempting it again is the film's star Jennifer Grey.
She told The Guardian: "God, no! I only did it on the day I shot it. Never rehearsed it, never done it since.
"I don't know how all these people who re-enact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze. It's insane!"
She admitted she's asked all the time to perform the lift, but she won't give in.
"It's a non-starter. It happened, enjoy it, watch it over and over again but never ask me to do it again because I'm too f**king old... I have a family and I want to live longer."
However, she said she is proud of the film and glad it still makes people happy. »
Dirty Dancing is one of those movies that pretty much everybody loves. Even the guys who claim they've never watched it have been known to say "Nobody puts Baby in a corner" now and then. While Jennifer Grey loves that everybody still takes the movie to heart, she doesn.t understand is why so many people try to recreate the famous lift. Speaking with The Guardian while promoting her new Amazon series, Red Oaks, Grey pulled no punches by making the following statement addressing the people who try to capture the magic themselves: I don.t know how all these people who re-enact it have the guts to throw themselves into the arms of anyone other than Patrick Swayze. It.s insane! To be fair, we assume most of the women throwing themselves into the scene wish they were jumping into the arms of Patrick Swayze. That part.s a »
