Our Favorite Practical Gore Effects Created by Tom Savini

16 April 2013 1:00 PM, PDT | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

Tom Savini is a make up effects legend and an original badass. He is responsible for making the demise of hundreds of fornicating teenagers look realistic as well as bringing all sorts of disfigured monsters to life. Tom Savini was in love with horror before it was en vogue to work in genre film. He has pulled off some of the most realistic looking and insanely difficult practical effects ever. In addition to being responsible for some of the most epic impalements, exploding heads, decapitations, and stab wounds, Savini also acts and runs a make up effects school for aspiring FX artists. As a “thank you” to one of the most respected men working in fright films today, we are paying tribute by highlighting ten of our favorite special effects created by the renowned make up artist himself.

New Fright Rags Include Creepshow and High Tension

22 February 2013 9:20 AM, PST | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

Fright Rags just released their new shirts for this month, which include designs from Creepshow, High Tension, and Slaughter High:

Slaughter High: “Stop me if you’ve head this one before; a dorky high school kid gets ridiculed and pranked on by the cool kids. And when they get older, he sets up a reunion to enact revenge upon them. Let’s not kid ourselves — Slaughter High brings nothing new to the slasher genre. However, it has a weird sort of charm that makes it so much fun to watch which is why we decided to create an all-new design for it. So celebrate this guilty pleasure by wearing it on your chest!”

They’re Creeping Up On You: “I’m all for cleanliness, but Upson Pratt takes it to an all-new level with his dedication to live in a sterile environment! But cockroaches are pervasive lil’ buggers, »

Exclusive: Ti West on the 'ABCs of Death'

31 January 2013 1:30 PM, PST | FEARnet | See recent FEARnet news »

The ABCs of Death. Twenty-six short films from 26 horror directors, each addressing a cause of death for each letter of the alphabet. We spoke to Ti West about his segment, "M is for Miscarriage."   A simple question for two old-school horror fans: what's the appeal of an anthology film? It's truly a mixed bag (by definition), so there is something for everyone.  It's hard to make a great anthology, because someone may like some of the stories and not the others.  You have to be open to all types of stories to really appreciate the delivery.   What's your favorite Creepshow segment?  The first Creepshow is great but "The Raft..."   Yes! From Creepshow 2. That one really sticks with horror fans. Yeah, it's iconic, and was a staple for me growing up.  Also, I know it's technically cable TV but the Tales from the Crypt series was as good as it gets. »
