'A Hard Day's Night' Reborn: Behind the Beatles Film's New Restoration

3 July 2014 6:25 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

"If you listen closely...there, right there. Did you hear that?" Ryan Hullings moves his mouse back to the play button and clicks, and the single most recognizable opening chord ever — a modified F chord, played against a Gsus4 and a D bass note (but don't just take our word for it) — rings out loudly from the computer in his office at the Criterion Collection. Faintly in the background of this fanfare, however, something that sounds like crying seagulls can be heard, as well as a slightly crunchy edge to the notes. »

Trailer for the Restored, 50th Anniversary Release of A Hard Day’S Night

28 April 2014 2:00 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

In between the blockbusters and the indies, this summer is going to have a delightful re-release with A Hard Day's Night returning to theaters for its 50th anniversary.  The very loose plot is about The Beatles coming to America, but it's really just an excuse to have the group engage in utterly delightful antics and shenanigans.  Obviously, the music is excellent, but it's a surprisingly witty and vibrant piece of filmmaking, and I hope people make some time to see this restored version. Hit the jump to check out the trailer.  A Hard Day's Night opens July 4th, and stars John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr.  And if fans happen to miss out, they can pick up the new Criterion Collection Blu-ray, which will be released on June 24th. Via Janus Films. Here's the synopsis: Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U. »

It Was 50 Years Ago Today...

8 February 2014 11:03 AM, PST | www.culturecatch.com | See recent CultureCatch news »

...and I was in first grade. Ed Sullivan was presenting "these youngsters from Liverpool who call themselves The Beatles" on his American variety television program. My mother, father, younger brother David, and I were huddled around our RCA black and white TV set, just as 73 million other Americans were around theirs! My dad was annoyed that this much attention and hype was being flung at "a bunch kids that needed haircuts!" I didn't care, it was The Beatles! They'd taken the radio by storm with "She Loves You" and now it was time to see them live on TV. And it was electrifying! The audience was going crazy -- girls and boys screaming. They played "All My Loving" and "Till There Was You" and "She Loves You" and "I Saw Her Standing There" and it would usher in a change in the pop music landscape that still reverberates today.

'That Awkward Moment,' When We Interviewed Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, and Zac Efron

29 January 2014 10:00 AM, PST | Moviefone | See recent Moviefone news »

To a large majority of the female population, a couple of weeks ago I lived the ultimate dream: I was in a deluxe hotel room in Manhattan with Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan, and Miles Teller, to talk about their new romantic comedy "That Awkward Moment."

These are about the hottest young guys in the world right now, and I'm not just referring to the insane amount of attractiveness floating around that room, with each one of them about to embark in some really crazy, potentially world conquering projects -- Jordan is set to star in the "Rocky" spin-off "Creed," where he'll play Apollo Creed's son who gets trained by Rocky Balboa; Teller is set to appear in "Divergent," based on the best-selling young adult series; and Efron will co-star with Seth Rogen in "Neighbors," a movie whose trailer seemed to single-handedly break the Internet.

Not that being in a room with these guys, »
