New Doc Will Chronicle Infamous ’80s Exploitation
Production Outfit From Acclaimed Director Mark Hartley
Drafthouse Films, the distribution arm of the world-famous Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announced today the acquisition of all Us rights to Electric Boogaloo: The Wild, Untold Story Of Cannon Films from world-wide sales agent Celluloid Nightmares. From acclaimed cult film documentarian Mark Hartley (Not Quite Hollywood, Machete Maidens Unleashed), the film centers on the story of two Israeli-born, movie-obsessed cousins, Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, who in pursuit of the “American dream” launched an indie studio that would produce over 120 exploitation films from 1979-1989 turning a renegade outfit into the proclaimed “seventh Hollywood major.” The film is currently in pre-production in Australia with Producer Veronica Fury and Executive Producers Xyz Films (upcoming Sony Pictures release The Raid). A theatrical release is being planned for late 2012 to coincide with a traveling roadshow retrospective of Cannon’s seminal films. »

For those of us who grew up during the decade of big hair and excess, just the mere sight of the Cannon Films logo is enough to conjure more than a boatload of nostalgia. Thanks to Drafthouse Films said boat is soon to be sailing our way!

Everyone knows that the one thing the Montreal Sound On Sight crew likes better than movies, is drinking. You can find us at the Irish Embassy, McKibbons Pub, Brutopia and MadHatters after most film festival screenings. Like the S.O.S. staff, movies are never short on characters who have had one too many. There is a reason why Simon Howell banned drinking during the recording of our podcast. Below is a video edited by the fine folks at Screen Junkies, featuring characters/actors wasted on film. There are of course some obvious choices missing. Perhaps some of the most memorable movie drunks in my book are Willie T. Stokes, the bitter, lonely alcoholic from Bad Santa, Bob and Doug McKenzie from the awesome Canadian film Strange Brew, Dudley Moore’s Arthur from Arthur, Henry Chinaski played by Mickey Rourke in Barfly and my personal favourite Martha (Elizabeth Taylor) from »

“I’m ready to paaaar-tyyyyyyy!” By now you’ve probably seen the hilarious trailer for Bridesmaids and the moment in which “Maid of Dis-honor” Kristen Wiig, in an attempt to calm her nerves on an airplane, gets completely sauced in the process. As far as all-time drunk performances in a comedy go, this one ranks right up there with Dudley Moore in Arthur and Ari Graynor in Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.
While, unfortunately, you’ll still have to wait one more day to see said scene in the top-notch comedy in theaters, there’s another drunk moment to hold you over until then. »
